The Big Day

"Wake up, Renesmee. Today is the big day!" My mother said cheerfully as she shook me awake.

The big day, as in my first day of going to school. Before I was homeschooled by my family because of my quick growth. Now that my growth was near finished my parents thought it was time.

So today would be the first day of my senior year of high school.

Stretching I let out a yawn before I opened my eyes to look at her. A grin spread across my face as I looked into her eyes. Just seeing my mothers face is more than I could have imagined all those years ago when the Volturi came.

But that was in the past, and they haven't bothered us since.

"Good morning, mom." I said as I sat up in my bed.

Smiling my mother ran her fingers through my long curly hair. "You look so much like your father." She said as she turned down my sheets so I could easily climb out of bed.

Apart from the face I did look just like my father. I had his bronze hair and over the years my eyes shifted to a greenish brown, the color of my fathers eyes when he was human. I was the perfect mix of my parents.

"Is dad going to take me to school?" I asked as I crossed my large room to open the curtains and let the morning sun in.

My mother joined my side at the window, the sun causing her skin to sparkle like diamonds. "Actually, we have decided to leave that up to you."

"What do you mean?" I asked as I headed over to my bathroom to turn on the shower.

"I mean, you have your drivers license. Dad can drive you or you can drive yourself." My mother responded nonchalantly.

"I guess I will drive. Jake is supposed to start today too, but he said he was going to be a little late." I said before I closed the bathroom door and got in the shower to rinse off.

Not that I needed to shower, being part vampire came with a perk. I did have sweat glands but instead of a stinky smell emmitting from my pores I secreted a sweet scent like that of a gentle fruitish-musky perfume. Showering was just one of those things I did routinely.

When I finished showering I dried off and got dressed. I was wearing jean shorts, a grey flowy top with one of my many favorite plaid flannels unbuttoned, and on my feet were brown combat styled boots. My hair was pulled up into a messy bun that sat on the top of my head.

My outfit wasn't exactly Alice-approved but it was my style; simple, down to earth and comfortable. Basically what I wore growing up over the years. Only, Alice didn't pick it out. I did.

After I grabbed my brown leather side bag that had all my things for school in it I made my way downstairs to say good bye to my family. It was just my mother and father who were here right now, everyone else was out at work.

We moved from Forks, Washington 5 years ago, to Oak Harbor, Washington which is located on Whidbey Island, just north of Seattle.

The house was set on 20 acres of land surrounded by an old growth forests and wetlands. It gave us freedom to be us and have privacy and my family didn't have to go far to hunt.

"Have a good day, sweet heart." My father said as he pecked a kiss on my forehead.

"I will." I replied as I gave my mother a hug. "I'll see you later." I grinned as my mother handed me the keys to my new car my father had bought me a week ago.

"Drive safe!" My father called as I opened the front door.

"I will!" I called back.

Crossing the short distance to the garage I typed in the code to open the door. When I seen my car my already excited grin grew bigger, stretching from ear to ear.

My car was a beautiful, sleek, blue Mercedes Benz G-Class. Because I took after my father when it came to height I liked my leg room so the standard car wasn't a choice for me. Jake tried to persuade me towards getting a truck but I instantly fell in love with the Benz.

Climbing into the drivers seat I shoved my backpack in the back and stuck my key in the ignition and started it. After I had adjusted my seat to a comfortable position I adjusted my mirrors and then was on my way.

The high school was 5 1/2 miles from our house so it was an easy drive. When I pulled into the student parking lot I noticed a few heads turning in my direction. I brushed it off because it was normal for my family for two reasons.

One, we looked beautiful to the human eye.

Two, we had a lot of money and what we drived, where we lived - for those that had seen my families home in the past-, and how we carried ourselves screamed it.

I quickly found a parking spot near the front close to the campus and parked. Getting out I grabbed my back pack from the back and locked the doors before setting the alarm.

Next stop, my first class.

I had only toured the school once with my parents and the Vice Principal so I knew where I was going. I took my schedule out of my back pack and looked at it.

Human Geography was my first class of the day followed by Pre-calculus. Shouldn't be too hard, especially when I was home school by people that have been gathering knowledge for hundreds of years.

I made it to my class just as the bell rang.

"Hello," the teacher greeted as I caught his attention.

"Hi." I replied back.

He shuffled through the papers on his desk before grabbing what I seen was a roll call form. His finger ran down the length of the paper and then stopped at my name.

"Renesmee Cullen?" He asked.

"Yes, sir."

"Welcome to our school. Did you change schools?" He asked.

I shook my head. "I was home schooled. My family traveled a lot."

"Oh, military?" He pressed.

"No, I mean that while I was home schooled we traveled a lot as part of the cirriculum. My parents believe in a more hands on approach when it came to learning so for studies like word history or French we actually visited the places instead of just reading about them."

The teachers eyes widened. "Wow, really?" He asked as he sat back in his chair.

I smiled. "Yeah."

"So your parents, are they archaeologists or teachers?"

I shook my head. "My father owns a music label and my mother owns a publishing agency. I'm not sure the name."

This was the true part of my families story.

Over the past couple years my family had purchased a publishing agency in my mothers name and a music label in my fathers.

"Sounds like you come from a very privelaged family."

I felt my face blush.

"If you don't mind me asking, why would you want to trade in a learning experience like that and come to a school with desks and books?" He asked me.

I glanced over my shoulder at the students sitting in their desks behind me. Some of them whispered amongst themselves about me. "I'm a teenaged girl, I need friends." I said to him before I turned and walked over to the open desk between a girl with red hair and a boy with brown hair.

The red headed girl to my right leaned towards me. "Was all that stuff about your family true?" She asked me.

I glanced at her and nodded my head. "Yeah."

"Well then, first advice of making friends is keeping those kind of details to yourself. Some people measure you by what they can take from you. Only after you can truly trust someone you can tell them."

I nodded my head. "Thanks for the advice. I'm Renesmee." I introduced myself.

"It's nice to make an acquaintence to you. I'm Fayelynn."
