"You think you're the painter, but you're the canvas."
You can find this phrase, this metaphor, very early in the book and takes a unique perspective on having control. Aza talks about not having control in regards to her mental illness but I think it goes way beyond having mental illness and touches on something about us humans in the way we might think we're in control and choose ourselves what we do, when sometimes our behaviour and we in general are a product of the situations we find ourselves in. We might think we have the control over the paint and the brushes and the ways we place all the colours when really we are the ones that get painted on. It's just an illusion to make ourselves believe we have a choice.
