The weather was a lot better today. No rain and a perfect temperature.
We all met up at the sandlot at 8:30 excited to get back into playing
Benny went up to bat first, Kenny was ready to pitch. Benny had a very focused look on his face as Kenny threw the ball at him straight down the middle. CRACK!! Benny had sent to ball flying, but as it flew through the air, the ball didn't look right. It looked deformed and not like a baseball should. We all stood there watching the no longer a ball fly through the air.
It landed right into my glove, but only part of it. I looked down to see the outside of the ball laying on the ground as I held the guts of the ball.
We all stood there in shock, Benny had busted the guts of the baseball.
"I don't believe this" Ham said
I grabbed the ball from out of my glove with my other hand examining it.
"Only two or three guys in history have busted the guts out of a ball" Squints said
"Must be an oman" Tommy said
"Well, all this means is that we can't play no more" Benny said "And after we didn't get to play yesterday"
"It's fine" I said "This is the best thing i've ever seen"
"Yeah yeah best thing ever" Yeah yeah said
"Anyone got any money?" Benny asked
"No" we all said as we looked at each other shaking our heads
"Great, this isn't fine, we can't play no more" Benny said
"Yeah we can" Scotty said
"What, you got 98 cents at home?" Benny asked
"No, but I got a ball" Scotty said
"Go get it!" We all yelled at him in unison
He didn't say anything, just started running back home to grab it. I didn't really know what he was talking about when he said he has a ball. Unless he is hiding some from me, we don't have any baseballs.
We all went over and sat in the dugout while we waited for Scotty to get back
~ Few minutes pass ~
Scotty came running back with the ball in his hand "Hey guys, I've got the ball!"We all got up from the dugout and walked back onto the field
Scotty handed Benny the ball "Your ball, your hit" He said handing the ball back to Scotty
"Ok" Scotty said grabbing the bat and handing the ball to Kenny. We all went to our usual spotsKenny threw the ball at him, Scotty swung and sent the ball into the air.
We were all really happy for him cheering and congratulating him as he ran the bases
I backed up to catch the ball but it ended up landed over the fence
When Scotty got to second base and saw the ball went over the fence he started to slow down and walk towards the outfield.
"Uhh Smalls" Bertram said standing at second "Third base is that way!" He pointed towards third
"Oh no" I heard Scotty whisper under his breath
"Yeah, nice hit Smalls, nice hit!" Benny said
Scotty walked closer and closer to the fence as he kept repeating "oh no" over and over
Ham started to run towards us "You forgot to turn! You to third base!! Smalls!"
Scotty just kept walking, zoning us all out.
