Take Care of Yourself

I wrote this poem in the bed of a hotel room after getting off of FaceTime with my boyfriend.

You tell me, "take care of yourself"
But I know that's not going to last
Time ticking until I stop to be what you want
Because what if you don't like how I take care of myself?
What if you think the way I take care of myself is because I don't love you?
Baby sometimes I only want to rest my head on your chest
And let my tired, tired self fall asleep feeling warm and safe in your arms
Only to know that when I wake up I'm going to feel scared
And guilty
And hollow
And cold

And then you'll say
"Take care of yourself"
Only when it makes you feel like the hero again
