Ghosts & Goblins

By My Side

9/11/04

You've always been the one

To reach out to help me

I'll always believe

With you by my side

Memories we share

All of them cherished

Good ones

Bad ones

All of them in between

You showed me

I can live my life

Any way I choose

Open minded with an open heart

Fear once blinded me

You taught me how to dream

You are everything I am

The very air I breathe

You've done it all for me

Simple kisses

Loving hugs

All the kind words

I give you my heart

Unselfishly

I give you my soul

Willingly

You are my daily dose

Of vivid reality

Remind me how colorful

The world around me is

Shelby didn't fight, at least, not too hard.  The officer was half dragging half leading her down the narrow hallway towards the holding room.  This was her third time in front of this judge and Shelby was going to have to do some quick thinking to get herself out of this mess.

Wearing what they'd picked her up in, a tight skirt and a black ribbed top that showed off her ample cleavage.

I'm in so much trouble, thought Shelby.

"Sit here," said the officer in a kindly tone.  "Don't run, you know we'll catch you."

"Thanks," said Shelby, refusing to cry.

The officer left her alone for a moment, and when he did a tall lanky man sat down next to her, he was using crutches and leaned back, studying Shelby.

"Look, I'm already in enough trouble as it is, picking up a john in a courtroom, simply not a great move, pops," said Shelby.

The man threw his head back and laughed hardily.  "You are a spit fire, aren't you?"

"Who are you?" asked Shelby defensively.

"I'm Jack, I run a school – for kids like you – you know the ones, the troubled ones?"

"Jack, huh?" said Shelby.  "A school?"

"New Dawn," said Jack, rubbing his unshaven cheek.  "It's a good school, for kids who have problems, like yourself.  I think you can, um, sell him on that."
