I've never struggled so hard with something my entire life,
Day after day a year full of strife.
I wanted to get through it myself,
I didn't want to burden you.
After the weight of the last year spent overseas, I didn't want you disappointed in the man I became.
My mind worn heavily, and my body tense to the core.
Most of all, I was scared you wouldn't want me anymore.
So when you expressed doubt,
I pushed you away.
