Chapter 13: Never Trust Love

We can't trust love, yet we constantly cling to it every chance we get.

It was a little past midnight and I couldn't sleep. I laid on top of Adisa, tracing shapes into his skin to distract myself from Becky's words. He was dead sleep, probably tired from all of the excitement.

Look at you, just two weeks ago you cringed at the thought of it and now you're drowning in it without even realizing it.

I knew that I had feelings for Adisa, and while in Becky's sight, I tried not to show it.

Becky was very observant. She had the brown eyes of a hawk and the mouth of a seagull when she was on a mission. I had caught her disappointment with a unwelcome fullness. Her words clung onto me hours later.

I thought you were smarter than everyone else.

I sighed. Clearly I wasn't smarter than everyone else. I fell for him more and more everyday. It was almost inevitable and that was what scared me most of all.

I couldn't make my organs listen to me.

My heart pounded when he said my name and his name seemed to always be in my head. My brain was happy to think of him. My stomach turned to mush whenever I looked in his eyes. My legs transformed into pudding when he spoke in that mysterious language. Don't even get me started on what my vagina was doing.

He was a sensory overload. A computer virus that spread into my motherboard with a quick ease. A Venus Flytrap welcoming my instincts with a soothing scent. A lioness waiting for the perfect moment to strike... if he hadn't already.

While I waited for the inevitable, miserably.

Becky was right. I didn't trust myself with love. My track record so far wasn't exactly exemplary.

I feared love, because it had done me so much harm before. Wounds were still open and I continued to try to seal them daily.
