Fire in the Hole

"Werewolves are the best trackers on the planet." I say as I twiddle my thumbs in Bills car as I feel the fear of Alcide coming to get us 

"I covered our tracks, Megs. Alcide won't be finding us. Is it too late for me to talk you out of this?" he asks and I sigh 

"How come you can't feel me anymore? I thought once I'd had your blood, it was forever." I whisper ignoring him  

"At that camp where I fed all those vampires, I was completely drained, Megs. Jessica and James may have saved my life by transfusing me, but the Bill Compton that I am today has nothing to do with the Bill Compton whose blood flows through your veins" he says and I look over at him 

"So you're saying you get a clean slate, then? That you're not the same vampire who did all those horrible things to me?" I ask I feel my body become tight 

"No. I have to live with the memories of what I'd done to you forever. I can't acquit myself of any of it." he says and I nod 

"Good." I whisper and he sighs 

"If we're gonna go through with this plan, then you're gonna have to take my blood or I won't be able to help you" he says and I nod again as he bits his wrist and holds it out to me as I suck on it and I start hearing him moan 

"Can you not" I say lifting my bloodied mouth off his wrist. When we finally get into position I look up at Bill who's sitting in a tree 

"Alcide would be right, you know" he says and I sigh feeling a talk coming on 

"What about?" I whisper  

"This plan of yours. It's shaky at best" he says and I laugh 

"I'm all ears, if you got a better one. You know, this plan of mine is half yours. You gave me the idea" I say and he looks down at me confused

"I did no such thing." he says and I see almost a smile form on his face 

"Sure, you did. The first time you took me to Fangtasia, in the car on the way there you called me "vampire bait. " That's not something a girl forgets." I say and he shakes his head 

"I didn't mean it literally." he says and I nod 

"I know you didn't, but when we say stuff, we can't decide how people are gonna take it. All I'm doing tonight is fulfilling my purpose. Let's just hope the bad guys take the bait." I whisper 

"If everything goes as planned and they take you to where they're holding the others, you want me to bring Alcide along when I come and find you?" He asks and I nod 

"Hell, yeah, bring Alcide. Bring anybody who's willing to help. There's a whole lot of us that are gonna need rescuing. A-- at least I hope there are, and the last thing I need is anybody else dying 'cause of me." I whisper and he smiles after that it takes almost an hour before I speak again 

"Where the hell are they?" I yell up at him and he sighs 

"If I didn't know better, I would say that you were looking forward to this." he says and I scoff  

" It's just them not taking the bait is a little insulting, is all. I thought I smelled special." I say and he nods 

"Oh, you do." he says 

"Have you ever been to Six Flags?" I ask and he chuckles  

"I cannot say that I've had the pleasure. Didn't they close that down?" he asks 

" Like, five or six years ago, I think it was. But my grandpa took me and Jason there once for my ninth birthday. Anyway, they had this ride, like a free-fall thing, you know, where they put you in this cage and then they push you out over this ledge hundreds of feet up in the sky." I say and he chuckles again 

"You were nine? I mean, I'm immortal and that would scare me to death." he says and I almost want to take a picture of the beautiful smile on his face 

" The fall wasn't the worst part. It was the waiting. You knew they were gonna drop you, you just didn't know when. That's exactly what this feels like." i whisper and he sighs 

"You should try going to war." he says and I shake my head 

"Is this war, Bill?" I ask and his face goes stone cold 

"Yeah. Yeah, I suppose it is." he whispers and I sigh before sticking a knife into my skin to allow blood to float

"Megs" Bill yells seeming to snap out of his daze 

"I'm sick of waiting. Come on, y'all! I taste like sunshine and flowers and I'm right f*ckin' here!" I cry out but there's still nothing but after a while I look up and see Holly coming towards me 

"Oh, my God, Holly." I cry as I run up to her but she's walking in a daze 

"Hey there." she says 

"Oh, my God. Where have you been?" I cry wrapping her in an embrace 

" I don't know." she whispers 

 "Megs!" I hear Bill scream but before I know it I'm being grabbed and I look over ot see Bill chained by metal but I see Alcide and Sam run in their forms toward the vampires and I hear the sounds of shots and watch as blood splatters all over me  

"What the f*ck were you thinking, Megs Don't answer me. Do not f*ckin' talk, all right? You swallow any blood? -What about your eyes? You get any in your eyes? Just shake your head yes or no." Alcide cries and i nod my head quickly "Fuck! Help me wash her off in the river." he says and someone grabs me and I feel water fall onto my face as I keep my mouth shut " What the fuck were you thinking, huh? Tell me I ain't good enough to protect her and you are and this is what you come up with?" I hear Alcide growling 

"It was her idea, Alcide. I've known her long enough not to try and change her mind." Bill responds 

"Yeah, go on, tell me about Megs like I don't know her. And I swear to God, I will fucking kill you." Alcide responds and when I'm able to open my eyes again I go to tell them to shut up the sounds of gunshots have me looking over at Alcide as I see blood splatter from him 

"Alcide!" I cry as more gunshots are fired at him and I run towards him 

" Andy, behind the tree." I hear my brother says 

"Alcide! Alcide! Alcide! No, no, no! Is he breathing?" I cry as I watch Jessica appear over me and she shakes her head 

" I could--or one of us could turn him for you, but we would have to do it-- Megs" she cries and I shake my head sobbing 

"No." I cry 

"You sure, Megs?" I hear Jasons voice ask  

"I've been down that road before." I cry as I hold on to him but the screams of my sister have me turning around a little and I see her run up to the body and kneel next to me 

"What happened?" she sobs
