Brinnnggggggggg!
The bell sounds to signal the end of my sixth period Biology class, and the end of the day. As everyone is rushing out, Miss Nelson calls me back.
“Cassia. Could I see you for a moment?”
I retreat back into the now empty classroom. I find it quite remarkable how swiftly kids can get out the door.
“I was talking about you to Mr Muller today,” she tells me.
I frown, confused. “Who?”
Miss Nelson smiles. “The Year 11 Biology teacher,” she says. “There is an opening in his class, and he suggested that you take it, because you are working at the same level as that class already.”
I start laughing. The teacher just stares at me. Partly because she has probably never seen me laugh, and partly because – well, in her eyes there is nothing humorous about the conversation. But I am thinking of Ash.
“Sure,” I say. “Yeah, it’s a great idea.”
“Good,” she tells me, smiling. “You start next week. Same time as my class, only you’ll be over in room B4.”
Dear Mum,
I got put up into Year 11 Biology. Hope you’re proud. Wish you were here to congratulate me.
