Eanruig "Ernie" Hawker, Jr. has a secret. A skeleton in the closet to end all skeletons. It catches up with him and throws him a curve ball the size of a rogue planet. He ejects from his crippled ship and lands only to be thrown into the deepest darkest pit in all the universe for deserters and idealistic heroes.

Charged with desertion, his mind will be scrambled like the rest. But the process goes awry when something long since forgotten is awakened. A simple tool created a millennium ago by his ancestors that linked all, but time, ego and fear has crippled it. Ernie's skeleton has re-activated it and in doing so has found the way to escape his prison.

He gathers up the forgotten heroes and creates an escape plan for himself and the rag tag group of warriors, magi, weaver, priestesses, gun heads and even a banished empress.

They're going to carry out the impossible: They're going to save the universe from evil.

Until one unfortunate day he was entangled with the worst situation as he had to present himself before the antagonist of the book. Standing before him he caught his eye and was recruited as one of his personal guard. Moreover the protagonist of the story was very much to his distaste.
