Ruby Rose was four years old when she lost her sight - not that she remembers much of it. She had vivid nightmares of the Grimm attacking her and Yang, when she'd taken them out into the woods in search of her birth mother, and according to their father, Taiyang, that had been when Ruby lost her sight. According to him, Qrow was too late to stop one swipe of a Grimm's claws from catching the young Rose.
