A friend once asked me "How can you love someone who doesn't love you in return?" I smiled and immediately saw his face in my mind. A small laugh leaving my lips when I replied "It's easier than you think. I love him for the way he makes me smile. I love him for the way he makes me laugh. I love him because he makes me feel free. I love him because he doesn't remind me of my past. He is serenity. Peace. So what if he doesn't love me? He makes me feel things when I've felt so numb for so long." She looked at me like I'd just spoken gibberish but all I could do was smile. Sometimes you don't need to be loved back, just shown that you matter.
