Miller is gone. Her space suit is gone, meaning she must have gone out for a spacewalk overnight. I've checked the logs and that spacewalk has not been recorded. Something is very wrong.
I have contacted Commander Hunt and he has advised me to get in contact with mission control and see what they have to say. I have done that and also taken the initiative to use one of the drones to survey the area, searching for her orange space suit against the blue backdrop of Europa. It sounds easy, but it can be more difficult than you'd think. Fortunately, Lee had given me some lessons on using the drone back when we did not have much to do back when the first drill site was being assembled.
I have also contacted Dr. Horvat to check that all is well and see if he's seen anything, but he had no information that could help. His progress with the third drill site seemed promising but that was hardly the right thing to be concerned with at this time.
While she is gone, I've also had to continue to perform my task at the camp, as well as hers while waiting for mission control to read my message and send their response. With the time delay dealing with mission control here seems like an extreme waste in a situation where time is of the essence. Still, I need to treat this seriously.
Being in space can be mentally taxing for an individual, even for one who is experienced like Jenifer Miller. My first instinct is to go after her, but I need to keep my own safety and wellbeing in mind. Specifically, if she is having a mental breakdown there are concerns that she could become violent towards me. Still, if mission control takes too long to respond I may go out looking for her. I cannot lose another friend on this mission. The only reason I have not went out looking for her yet is I have not been able to spot anything with the drone. Once it recharges, I will take it for a second fly through of the area.
Mission control messaged me back asking for more information, specifically on information about peculiar behavior leading up to today or any changes in behavior. For a split second I hesitated, I did not want to get Jenifer in trouble. Then I came back to my senses. This was not high school; this was a mission deeper into space then any humans had ever traveled before. I told them about the recent mood shift after the death of Adams and pointed out that she was talking a bit strange the other day when we were looking over Jupiter. Now I await their response,
At this point with the sundown, I will not be able to use the drone until morning. Hopefully if she is still out there, she took an extra oxygen tank. Otherwise, she would have suffocated by the time I woke up if she didn't return. Mission control has not been much help, simply advising me not to go out unless I know where to go and I feel it is safe. Still, I know better than to just search around the drill camp aimlessly alone. Throughout the day I have sent several messages through comms to Jenifer Miller's suit. She has responded to none of them, nor acknowledged receiving them.
