A whisper from afar,
The girl listened and heard
With alarm the sound of a tune-
She never believed a word
Of the lore, the lie, the lesson
That preached sanity over wisdom
And a sound of clarity
That rang through the kingdom.
Yet here it is,
The fantastical tale
Of a boy uncouth and unknown
Wrenched into this tail
End of a poem, of a ramble
Of how he must definitely, desperately
Be a prince or something
Or nothing will fit reactively
With the typical ending,
And create insensible dreams
That run awry as it scrambles from the boy,
As he chases after the gold that gleams.
He chases and chases
And the girl marked his adventures,
Shook her head and sighed
That he should run after a mere spectre
When so much more could be said
Of his courage, her fortitude
The qualities most present
In the light of solitude.
Because no, it is of no importance
And move on, move on,
Continue the fable with some
Hackneyed-wide-eyed song.
Ho, the boy sings
As he digs out the remnants of a coin
He once only dreamed he had.
And he carts it off to the priest to anoint
It upon a statue for all to see
And the girl sighed and sighed-
Oh, when will this stop?
Well, not until we reach the high
Point of when he tries to slay the dragon
And oops, he dies.
The kingdom mourned, the girl laughed
And everyone wore white.
