Kai left me alone for a few days. We texted back and forth but nothing major. Until my phone rung.
"Kai?"
"Meet me a my place at 3."
He hung up. I had some cleaning to do anyways before I needed to go. Around 2:30 I left the house and went to Kai's. Everyone was inside the house.
"Now ready your melons boys. Kill. Kill. KILL. KILL"
I took a few steps walking to the living room and I saw a bunch of men stabbing watermelons. I looked at Kai and next to him a diagram of a pregnant women's stomach. Someone pushed me back.
"You shouldn't be in here."
"Get the hell off me." I said walking by him
"What is this?" I stood in the doorway looking at Kai
"Night of 1000 Tate's. 100... actually." He said giving a smirk
"Your gonna kill a bunch of pregnant women?" My eyebrows raised and I gave a look of confusion not believing what he was saying
"And their babies." One of his men shouted
"Spot on. Now go to the kitchen and help Ally and Beverly. We have work to do." Kai said turning away while the man pushed me into the kitchen
Ally, Beverly and Kai stood in the kitchen. Both cutting up food. I walked next to them picking up some onions to chop up.
"Exciting night isn't it." Ally said while cutting the Watermelon
"Yes. The Divine Ruler's wisdom is an inspiration. I'm very privileged to be making this Watermelon Feta salad on the glorious recycling... The night of 100 Tate's practice session... Nothing goes to waist with this amazing crew." After every word Beverly chopped with the knife faster and faster.
"Beverly" Ally whispered
"I can't do this anymore. I'm done.... I wanted to be the last person alive but i just wanna die."
"No Beverly"
"Kill me. Ally please I'm begging you" Beverly slides the knife to Ally
The breathing got heavier. I kept my head down cutting the onions. This wasn't my conversation.
"I helped ruin your life. If kai told me to i would've killed you and gotten a cheeseburger right after."
"We all did what we had to do.. And we still are that hasn't changed" Ally said giving a slight smile holding Beverly's hand. "What's happening tomorrow night will be glorious. You see I know it's hard when you've lost your faith..To find it again. Believe me I know. But just hang on a little while longer."
Kai came running in the room on the phone. They both went back to chopping up the food. "Where the hell are you Speedwagon I'm freaking out. Call me as soon as you get this. FUCK. The feds. THE GODDAMN FEDS MY SISTER PROBABLY TURNED HIM IN. That little rat. We need to call it off. They're probably tracing us right now" He threw his phone across the room smashing it in half
Ally walked over to him calming him down. "Kai. Relax. You're gonna pull this off. You'll make history." He nodded his head and before he went back to the other room he stopped at me and kissed my forehead
"Are you ok? You're quieter then usual."
"Yeah. Yeah it's just.. the onions that's it." I smiled kissing his cheek
He smiled and walked back to the living room.
~Later That Night~
"Emma why don't you stay here tonight?"
"Of course."
"I'll be up in a little I just have to talk to Ally."
I nodded heading off to his room. I was that close to freedom and now I'm sitting on his bed waiting for him like an idiot.
I started falling asleep when I heard slow footsteps dragging in the hallway. The door opened to Kai. His eyes filled with tears streaming down his face.
"I killed her for nothing."
"What?" I said sitting up
"She wasn't the mole. It was Speed Wagon."
"How.. how do you know?"
"Ally told me. He was gonna turn me in or some shit like that. Winter was right. She didn't turn on me."
"Kai"
Before I could say anything else he crawled on the bed next to me laying in my arms. His tears falling onto my shirt.
"It's gonna be ok Kai." I said rubbing his head while he started falling asleep in my arms
"I love you" he mumbled
"I love you too." I said kissing his head falling asleep with him
When I woke up he was in the same position. I didn't move until he opened his eyes waking up.
"Today's the big day." I smiled
"Should I cancel it? It just seems to risky now."
"It's your choice Kai. I'll support you no matter what." I kissed him on the lips
"It's too late to back out now. I love you."
"I love you too."
~Later at Night~
I barely saw Kai all day. And when I did it was just a quick peck on the lips and a smile.
It was time.
He gathered everyone to the basement. All his men sitting. Ally, Beverly and I standing against the wall watching as they went over the materials to use in the kill kit.
"The most important thing is not in the kill kit. It's inside you. ARE YOU ABLE AND WILLING TO DIE FOR OUR CAUSE?!"
"CHECK"
"ARE YOU READY TO MAKE HISTORY"
"YEAH. HOORAH DIVINE RULER. HOORAH DIVINE RULER. HOORAH DIVINE RULER. HOORAH DIVINE RULER."
He grabs a bowl full of some sort of pill
"FORTIFY YOURSELVES WITH SOME VITAMIN A"
They all cheered.
Ally looked at us and went upstairs shutting the door. I had no clue where she was going.
As Kai answered any lasting questions he walked over to me and cupped his hands around my face.
"This is for you baby. I love you." He said kissing me on the lips
Before I had time to respond one of the men walked in "Divine Ruler did you send Ally..."
"FBI YOU'RE UNDER ARREST." The FBI came to the door throwing a smoke bomb
My jawed dropped and I looked at Kai.
"Mother Fucker." His eyes were filled with terror, sadness, anger all at once
As they rushed down the stairs he grabbed me and brought me to the floor covering me. Gun shots all around filled up the room. I cried. Mostly because I didn't know what happened. I hated Kai. He deserved to rot in jail. But for some reason I felt bad. For him and me. I was the only one he had and he was the only one I had. I lost contact will all my friends since I met Kai. I lost everything in my life because of him. I was forced to love him at first but eventually I really did. It was always a fighting battle between me hating him and loving him. Someone dropped in front of Kai shielding him from being shot.
"Kai."
"Baby I-"
Before he could finish his sentence the FBI picked him up and put him in handcuffs. They grabbed me and stuck me in them too. Even though I was as restricted as I had ever been I felt the most freedom I have in a long time.
"She didn't do anything. SHE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING." He yelled as he saw them hook the handcuffs on me
Part of me was scared I was getting arrested. At least I was free from this cult shit.
As they pulled me outside of the house I saw Ally standing near the back of the truck.
"YOU BITCH! YOU BITCH! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU!!" Kai screamed trying to get free
Ally and I made eye contact.
"Thank you" I mouthed
Her eyes were watery and she stared at me as they shoved me into the back of the truck.
"Ma'am we're gonna take you back to the office." One of the agents said
I nodded
They asked me a few questions about the cult.
"When did this.. cult.. start?"
"Uh well I don't know exactly when it started. I think it was starting to become a thing when I joined. It didn't get this intense until recently."
"How recent?"
"Maybe a few weeks? I don't know I lost track of time."
"How many people were killed in the process of this cult?"
"Too many."
"Anyone you know?"
I paused for a moment.
"Yah. A few people in the cult were killed."
"How many?"
"Maybe... 5? 6? 7? Could be more."
"What were your relations with Kai Anderson?"
"I guess we were dating."
"Why didn't you turn him in when you knew it was him?"
"I didn't wanna get killed."
"Did you kill anyone ma'am?"
"No."
"Did Beverly Hope kill anyone."
I paused for a moment thinking if I should tell the truth or just keep it to myself. I bit my lip.
"I don't think so. Not that I know of."
"Did Ally Mayfair-Richards kill anyone?"
"No."
The agent looked at me for a minute. Inspecting me to see if I was nervous.
"What happened to Ivy Mayfair-Richards."
"I have no clue. She kinda just vanished. It's like she left."
The man stared at me waiting for me. Once he realized I wasn't much help he walked over to the chair and took the cuffs off.
"You're free to go ma'am."
I looked at him.
"One question. Where is Kai Anderson?"
"He's being detained. You're free to go." He said trying to hurry me along.
I walked out the door and Ally stood outside near the entrance. Her eye makeup was smudged and she looked tired.
"Beverly should be out in a little bit."
I nodded and stood next to her
"So It was you all along." I said
"Yup."
"Since when."
"After the Meadow shooting incident. The FBI took me in. Promised me immunity if I worked with them."
I nodded "Wow. Didn't see that coming."
"Really? I thought I was giving it away."
"Nope. Never knew a thing."
"Did he?" She didn't mention his name but I knew who he was talking about
"No. I don't think he ever had a clue it was you."
"Sorry I.. got you locked in that closet."
"Eh I got used to it. Did Beverly know?"
"Nobody did."
I turned so we were face to face "Did you really kill her?"
"Who?"
"Your.. wife."
She chuckled a little and looked away "I don't know who you're talking about."
I smiled and faced front again. Beverly came out the door looking at us. Ally drove Beverly home first. It was just the two of us alone in the car now.
"What are you gonna tell your son? About Ivy?"
"Rumor has it she ran away to go to cooking school."
"Interesting." I mumbled "You think he'll get life?"
"Why wouldn't he. He'd be lucky if they didn't send him to the electric chair."
We pulled up to my house "Thanks Ally" I said getting out of the car and walking inside my house.
I turned the tv on as soon as I got up in the morning. Almost every radio channel was talking about him and his cult.
"Shit." They were mentioning my name, Ally, Beverly, everyone.
I heard a bunch of noise outside. I walked to my window and when I looked out I saw a bunch of reporters and cameras outside trying to get me to speak to them. My phone started to ring.
"Are they outside your house too." I said to Ally
"Everywhere."
Weeks had pasts. As the days started to go on the crowd of reporters died down. I sat in my bed one day with the tv on in the background.
"Kai Anderson has pleaded guilty to every death except a women named Ivy Mayfair-Richards. He was sentenced to life in prison. No other information has been released."
A few minutes after I heard that on the news I got a phone call.
"This is a collect call from... Kai Anderson.. an inmate at Robert Gordon correctional facility. Do you accept the charges?"
"Yes."
"Emma. Emma you need to get me out of here. I NEED TO SEE YOU."
"Kai I can't."
"No. No you have to please. Just come visit me. I'm going crazy in here. It's only been a few days I just need to see your beautiful face."
"No. You're in prison. There's nothing I can do."
"You said you'd support me no matter what. Did you lie to me?"
"Yes. I did. I can't support you. You are a murderer."
"Don't to this Emma. Please. Just visit me. YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME!"
I hung up the phone. Hearing his voice made my skin crawl. I kept my phone in the other room the rest of the night. I barely slept. He just wanted out of jail. He didn't want me.
