Five decades after the Third Great War, the world is still recovering. In the ruins of the city once known as Mainz, Germany, Tarık Hartmann lives and works in his uncle’s brothel, entertaining foreigners and trying to control his psychic abilities. All that changes with the appearance of a man whose mind he can't read—and whose own supernatural powers he can’t protect himself from. He is arrested by an organization called Gemini and taken to Hesperides, a laboratory located in the center of a slum city for refugees, to be studied. The studies reveal him to be a subject of the Morningstar Project. Unable to get answers from the scientists who want to turn him into a mindless weapon, at night Tarık sneaks off to the slums, where he meets a sickly refugee who offers to help Tarık get the answers he seeks in exchange for Tarık’s help in his mission: to destroy Gemini from the inside out.
