When humanity is spread liberally over hundreds of realms it's no surprise when you find humans who are just...other. When Officer Cheryl Albines of the Interrealm Coalition packs up to spend an eight month stint in the outerrealm known as Briarsvatte, she is pleasantly surprised to find the realm isn't as backwards as she had feared. There are paved streets, public transportation, industry, and a wireless network that allows her to use her holocomp freely. The people ordinary, the crime typical (if a little more violent than what she is used to), and the food is excellent. But something is strange about the realm, something off. There are no farms and no towns beside the main city. No one goes into the woods surrounding the city, and Cheryl is warned about wolves that are big, deadly, and clever. The natives of the realm can somehow survive living out in the Wildwoods, but they don't particularly care to share their secrets to the people they call 'outsiders'. If Cheryl is smart she would stay out of the quiet, internal conflict that is brewing beneath the surface of Briarsvatte. But the one thing Cheryl hates the most besides dealing with drunkards is leaving a mystery left unsolved...
