Book 2 of 7
The battle between the hunters and the wolfwalkers nearly tore the Eastern and Western Packs apart.
Calla, the Alpha female of the Western Pack of wolfwalkers - shapeshifters whose roots date back to medieval Irish lore and other legends abound - has been raised since she was a child to lead the pack. Her family's pack, whose own roots run deeply within the forests of western North Carolina.
When she turned twenty-five, Calla believed that her destiny was simple - she would take her rightful place as Alpha female of the Western Pack, strong, independent, and fierce, intended to become the mate of the Alpha male of the Eastern Pack, Garrett. But anything that could go wrong, did.
Within a fortnight of her twenty-fifth birthday, just before the mating ritual that would seal her bond to Garrett, and therefore strengthen the bond between the Eastern and Western packs against their rivals, the Northern and Southern Packs, Calla, and her childhood friend Seamus, an established Beta within the pack, are abducted.
Their captors, the so-called 'Searchers', are fanatically devoted to wiping out all supernaturals, including wolfwalkers, and know about the packs' existence. Even as Calla and Shay make their way home, they're relentlessly pursued, not only by their captors, but by mythological beasts that should only exist in legend.
To complicate matters, Calla begins to realize that she'd been hiding something for years from everyone - including herself. She'd been hiding the fact that she's had feelings for Shay, which are forbidden by pack law. And to make things more difficult, Shay reciprocates those feelings. Calla knows it's forbidden.
She's supposed to become Garrett's mate, in order to unite the packs. But how can she choose between her instinctive duty as an Alpha, and her heart?
