“We have never seen that happen, even in legalized testing simulations. If the program is shut off suddenly, the person or people inside, die. You are the lone survivor of the simulation.” My brain froze. I couldn’t take information in or put information out. I was completely stopped. How could I be the only survivor, and what do they want to do with me because I was? I forced my brain out of stop mode and looked at the woman. She was gazing at me with the look of admiration that a proud mother gives her child, yet her stare was predatory. I was her experiment now and she would stop at nothing to keep me from escaping her grasp. Everything in that instant finally made sense. Why there had been a picture of my brain on the wall, why I had not been allowed any information, why my attempted escape had caused chaos beyond my worth. These people, good or bad, wanted to find out how I survived the simulation. Wanted to find out what made me different. Wanted to find out, literally, what was inside of my brain.
