In the nation of Alawa, the two gravest mistakes one can commit are calling the god of perfection imperfect, and challenging her to a duel. Unfortunately, Adonis decided to do both. After a humiliating defeat, Perfection Incarnate gives Adonis two choices: pretend to be her Successor in exchange for forgiveness, or have shame brought upon himself and his family. He chooses the former, but soon realizes that there's more to the deal than being her false Successor. The Divinities' head god has been missing for a hundred years now, and his Successor will not be able to hide it much longer. Adonis and his god become a part of the search, but the missing god may not be the worst secret the Divinities is hiding. As a false Successor, Adonis has limits on how far he can search, and solving the mystery might require him to sacrifice everything he loves.
