I couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing. One second, there was a man in front of me with dark, unruly hair and broad shoulders covered by an old skier's jacket. I saw old men wear them at the ski lodge all the time during weekend escapades. The next second, a bear stood in his place. Then, the bear reared up on its hind legs, standing taller than any man could ever dream, and let loose a roar. I wanted to run. I wanted to scream. I knew I was in danger and yet I couldn't move a muscle. I had escaped one beast only to fall into the clutches of another.
