~History is subjective. Aside from the where, when, and who of particular events or conflicts, we're usually given the dominant culture's perspective of what happened and why. Often self-serving, our collective memory and even our collective amnesia of events help us justify behaviours and attitudes we are loath to examine or change. On a personal level, history is everything we've encountered in our lives up to the present moment: The formative events as well as the ambient cultural stream in which they take place. The poems in "History" were sparked by fragments of memory, spontaneous images, or 're-membered' emotions from my personal past. Each work attempts to explore the what and why of my young life in an openminded, often stream-of-consciousness style, allowing emerging images to create vignettes in which meaning can be found.
