The girl was very odd. She was not like others her age. She did not smile, did not laugh, did not cry and wouldn’t speak more than two words. The girl did not partake in dances nor did she attend festivals. Boys lavish her with gifts but, to the village girls’ horror, she pays them no attention. An emotionless child that people couldn’t seem to get close to. But the village accepted the child; with the influence from the village chief and his wife that the child was normal and most likely would never recover from whatever happened in the forest. However, Jaython, the mute, accepted her differences without any influence or words of encouragement. She, like him, didn’t fit in with the rest of the villagers.
