I froze, not believing what I was hearing. "I'm sorry," he whispered. The emotion in his voice was overwhelming. I turned to look at him and shivered as soon as my eyes met his. His brown eyes were so deep, I could feel myself getting lost in them. They were filled with sorrow, sadness so deep, it scared me. And something else... regret. Sincerity. "But that's not the worst part." Now his voice was a dark monotone. He was closing himself off, I realized. "The worst part is, they want me back." Like his voice, his eyes had changed too. They were hollow and cold. Almost lifeless. And it terrified the hell out of me.
