This is a selection of the first few chapters from City on a Hill a FINALIST in NEXT GENERATION INDIE BOOK AWARDS and a FINALIST & FIVE STAR REVIEW in READERS FAVORITE. Faith, religion, godliness--these things have caused more pain, suffering, and death than all the plagues of history combined. In Fortinbras, a city built in the aftermath of a religious war that nearly ended all life on the planet, religion is considered a disease. The residents are taught that they are all that is left of humanity and the cold law of logic and reason rule their lives. Sabrina Sabryia, a young police cadet, is a resolute enforcer of the law until her loyalties are torn between her best friend Lindsey Mehdina, a charismatic spiritual leader, and her uncle Angelo D'Agosta, the head administrator of the city. The conflict drives Sabrina and Lindsey across a radioactive wasteland pursued by cyborg bounty hunters. They quickly learn that what they took for truth in Fortinbras was not all that it seemed. Meanwhile terrorists plot a religious uprising that threatens millions of innocent lives and Sabrina and Lindsey must choose sides. Their choice pits friendship against family, war against peace, and eventually, faith against doubt. - A New Perspective of the Far Off Future Laufend

A collection of short stories all of which take place in the far future, close to 200 million years in the future. Humans have long been gone and life has long since moved on, with a myriad of new fantastic forms having evolved. This new era of life is defined by the dominance of a lineage of fire-breathing animals that for simplicity's sake are referred to as dragons (none of which look like typical dragons and are actually evolved from mammals). The world has since been cooling, a factor which is partly responsible for the dragon's dominance. This cooling is due in part to the movement and current position of the continents but also because of the actions of the dragons (and certain other life forms) themselves. The Earth is currently and briefly saved from its near-snowball state by the splitting of Asia from Eurasia (nearly complete) that caused a shift in ocean currents and an increase in volcanism. The world is still much colder than it is today, but for the current denizens of our planet, this warming was enough to be the salvation of many species. DISCLAIMER: This is an active world building project and as such not all details in each story will accurately describe the animals present. I write these stories as I go and as inspiration strikes, so stories will be written infrequently and with only a few aspects of each story finalized, depending upon what I want the focus of the story to be in the interest of expanding my world. - The Game: Round 1 The beginning or the end? 500 million years in the future humanity is thrown into a gladiator battle of epic proportions, 10 civilizations go into every round and only 1 comes back out... Out classed at every corner join James as he attempts to win all ten rounds. "The tragedy of their [the competitors] lives... They all face an almost insurmountable climb to the top, yet none give up... Is this what living is, not the state of existing but the yearning to survive reaching for a tiny glimpse of hope that maybe, just maybe, that you, your species might be the one. The winners, the ones who could go all the way, climb every mountain, conquer every obstacle, crush every enemy... - The creators A space based book filled with action that also questions mankind's place in the universe and what it means to be alive. (Wip) This book will probably be finished either at the end of the round or when the human race is "eliminated" from the game (If you find any errors in the book, if something doesn't make sense, or any other criticisms tell me and I'll get around to fixing it next time I'm online) - At A World's Magnificent End Laufend

Awaken has the planet become, an organism itself newfound in constitution. At the behest of a perspective inchoate is now relinquished an authoritative statement no more retractable: "extinguish that which afflicts you." Humankind, besieged not by international squabble and humanistic quarrel, comes together in a last ditch effort to combat a veritable force impermeable. Combat and triumph aren't synonymous, however. Overcoming the likes of an environment all enveloping is a zero-sum game, after all, for those situated within. Communicable is one such force, fortunately, with law and inquiry at once scientific and philosophical in essence. Mankind will fall prey either to nature ineffable or conflict natural, by the by: it is merely a question of when and how. - Inhumanism Laufend

Dystopian Literary Fiction: Fast forward to the present in Sprawn City. Enter into the human internal milieu the eastern renavirus, relatively fresh from its genetic jump from a desert tortoise, alien enough to generate no alarm from molecular defenses and thus able to make shattering inroads, whether gauged by infections or mortality. "Rachel was not a hydrologist, but intuitively the startling fall in the "mother of all reservoirs" seemed unexplainable by any of the usual mechanisms, even when the new Renavirus-related behaviors were factored in. "When in doubt, document! She turned away from the binoculars to attach the camera to the spotting scope. As no notice had ever been taken of the rote reports she had to file after every lookout session, Rachel had no expectations of any official interest in her primitive visual documentation of water level snapped from kilometers distant, but she had plenty of both boredom and curiosity to motivate her. "The 4 fold advantage in magnification affirmed her concerns. Dark liquid sloshed in the forebay, but its surface line fell over a meter below the obviously fresh high watermark. "Just a map and some basic geometry and I'll quickly calculate loss...", Rachel thought. "Later. For now just get the photos...". The camera clicked.
