Chapter 1 - That's Life

I've been going to performing arts school for a few years now since my mum forced me into it when I was 13. She wants me to become some big celebrity but I don't want any of that. I mean you couldn't just go outside without getting attacked by cameras. Most people just think I play piano, which I do, but no one knows that I love to sing too. I'm just too shy, explains why I've never had a propper boyfriend...

I only see my mum a few times a week, sleeping in the school's dorms. My mum is the type of person who if she could swap lives with you, she would. I mean she always used to prance around the house singing all the songs from the 80s and it's as if she wants me to live the life she never had. But as I said, I don't want any of that.

My room mate is Melany Fitzpatrick, the 'school queen' and the richest snob around. She's only in the school as 'daddy' owns it. She can't stand me I know it. She has bleech blonde hair and wears layers of false tan, fake eyelashes and everything else. I haven't actually seen her natural face. She misses or more like skips most of our classes, spending her time with desperate boys. I've never missed a class, wouldn't make much different though.

'Settle down everyone.' Miss Woodworth is our music teacher and is in her twenties. She can rarely keep the class under control, shouting at the odd person every ten miuntes. I sat at the back of the class, leaning on my hand.

'You will all be performing alone at next weeks Starlight Show and all need to pick a song of your own to perform.'

Great. No getting out of this one. The Starlight Show comes around every four years and usually has an audience of over 1000 people. I've never performed infront of 100 people never mind 1000. All I could think of was, what if I mess up?

'There will also be sone special guests in the audience, some you'll all know.' I imagine if One Direction were there, my idols. I'd probably freak out on stage, probably do that anyway...

'What song are you singing Demi?' I had been too busy daydreaming I completely forgot.

'Erm...' I thought quickly 'Little Things, by One Direction?' I heard some sniggers from around me. I'm going to mess up big time.

'Good choice, I'll look forward to it. And Melany?' All heads turned to face the lifesized Barbie.

'I've chosen Only Girl by Rihanna.' This should be interesting, she can't sing to save her life. Thinking about it, she can't do anything good.

'Very Well.' Miss Woodworth contiued to ask everyone else while I went off to practice. I set my fingers on the piano and began to play.
