Right right, meant to tell you guys, just wanted to post something new so that when She's Bad News is done, you'll have something to read. Let me know what you think. I found this super hard to write. I'll be working on SBN now.

Shaboopie.

Chapter 1

Funny how you could miss someone even though they were right next to you.

At this moment, I missed my sister.

I missed her so much that it hurt, that it made my chest literally ache from the pressure of it.

“God, you’re so dumb.”

I closed my eyes, trying to erase the image of her face at that moment. Her full lips were curled into a sneer, her straight nose a little higher than usual so that she could look down it at me with her too familiar eyes. It was her eyes that hurt the most. She had gorgeous blue eyes with flecks of grey in them. They were one feature we almost shared. Those flecks of grey matched the exact shade of my own eyes and ever since she was born, I felt like I was part of her in a way that could never be taken from us. From the moment she was born, it was Paige and Nell against the world.

Only Paige didn’t feel like that anymore.

“When are you going to stop following me around like a little puppy?” Paige shrieked.

Hey Nell, let’s sneak out and watch the stars.

I flinched when I felt her fingers wrap around my arm, her manicured nails cutting into the skin exposed by my white t-shirt.

“Look at me,” she hissed, her voice close to my ear. I would’ve traded anything to disappear right then, to not have to look at my baby sister and see the hate in her eyes.

Instead, I took a long, deep breath and did as she asked, opening my eyes and turning my head towards her.

And there it was.

Hate.

Vicious and poignant, steady and so solid that I felt like I could reach out and touch it.

Or maybe it was the other way around. It was her hate that could touch me, that could brush up against me and leave a mark just under my skin like a scar.

“Did I ask you to come here?” she snarled, her breath smelling of mint and whiskey, her voice just a bit slurred. “Did I call and beg for a ride from my responsible big sister? No?” She gave me a humourless grin tinged with a cruelty that made something inside of me twist painfully. “Then did someone invite you here? Did anyone else at this party call you up and say, ‘Hey Nell, you should come out’?” Her smile widened a second before she tilted her head back and laughed hard. At me.

“Stop it,” I whispered, my throat clogging with unshed tears, pressure building behind my eyelids and at my temples as I raised a hand to wrap my fingers around her wrist, trying to get her to loosen her grip. “I’ll leave, okay, just let me go.”

“Hey guys!” she shouted instead, her gaze brushing over me as she addressed the rest of the party, the thumping music drowning out her voice but those close enough to hear stopped to give her their attention. “Did you invite this girl?” A few of them laughed and every single one of them shook their head, confirming what we all already knew. “See?” Paige said, looking back down at me, the cruelty in her eyes hitting me harder than any punch. “You’re not welcome here.” She leaned in closer to me, her heels making her a half an inch taller than me as she whispered, her voice suddenly slur free and steady. “Now fuck off, Nell.”

Why are you crying, Nellie?

“Yeah,” I whispered, my heart in my throat, the pounding music pressing on my skull, making my head ache so badly that I thought it might explode.
