Gossip Dames

There they sat, the four of them
Debra, Phoebe, Flo and Betty Lou
Every week the friends gathered to play Hearts
Although a more important activity would ensue

Known throughout town as the Gossip Dames
It was difficult to choose which sported the biggest mouth
They rummaged for the juiciest news
Ears and eyes alert west, east, north and south

Cards held, score barely kept
The foursome percolated around Debra's folding table
All desiring to be first up to dish
Flo claimed her morsel one-hundred percent fact--no fable

Given the go-ahead, she bounced with abundant glee
Perched on crimson lips a Cheshire grin

It took place at the local high school

Once the bell rang other pupils rushed to lunch
Yet a particular redhead always lagged behind

During five months of the school year
The pair were entangled in a blazing red affair
Love or lust they carried on without anyone being the wiser

I've a question, Flo started, a frown on her face
