Catch a cute boy by the toe
If he hollers, make him pay
Two homecoming tickets by today
-This is the nursery rhyme I sing
As I search the school for my homecoming king
Cause I’ll win homecoming queen, that’s for sure
“You’ve won two years” friends say, duh, for sure
-I’ve been watching Nathan
Though dating him would be a sin
Cause my best friend Genni has a crush
On him, but I’m in such a rush
-See, I broke up with my boyfriend
And dateless at Homecoming is LAME, and
Nathan is super cute
So I have nothing to lose
-Except friendship with my dearest friend
But hopefully she’ll understand
That I must have a date
And I would really hate
-To admit that he’s been eyeing me
So very naturally
Me and him are a better fit
At least for this Homecoming shit
-So I said to him “Lets talk”
After 1st period, when they announce the homecoming nominations, lets walk
Down the hall to discuss
Something private, lets keep it between us
-Sitting in 1st period, as they announce the nominated names
Already smiling, can anyone blame?
Me for being nominated every year
I mean, hello! I’m the captain of cheer
-And the principal gets ready to announce the last name
I anticipate hearing my beautiful name
Cause they saved the best for last
Come on! Say it! Say it at last!
-“Genni Harper” he says, and I gasp
My best friend Genni? How did this happ-
Before I can even finish my thought
Genni pinches me, and says “Who would have thought?”
-I try to muster up a smile
But ... all the while
I am crying inside
And Genni says “You’ll never believe”
-Who happened to ask to go with me
To this years Homecoming
Nathan. Isn’t that great?
But don’t you worry, we’ll find you a date
-And if we don’t
Then I just won’t
Go with Nathan
Because then I can
-Go with you
My true best friend
I look into her sweet face
And wonder how it is the case
-I deserve a friend like her
I pray one day, I can be like her.
