Chapter One: Flushed

"Ella! Just hurry up all ready! You're taking forever and a day," I called for my friend.

She walked out, holding a curling iron dangerously close to her ear. "Calm down Angie. I had to wait for you too you know!" She shot back.

I grunted as I lay down on my bed. I felt my whole body sink down with the mattress and sighed. Maybe the party would be alright like Ella kept on saying.

I felt my palms get sweaty and rubbed them together, my thin gold bracelet clanging around on my wrist. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" I called, getting even more nervous by the second

Ella came walking back out of the bathroom waving a laminated card. Her make-up was finished along with her hair and dress. "Are you kidding me, Ange? This is pure genius!"

She opened up her hand bag and gave me a card. I read it slowly.

Lily Hamons

Age 23

November 10, 1988

"Ella! We can't get in with fake ID's. It's crazy! We'll get caught and I know it," I ranted. It was crazy, Ella thinking that us, two seventeen year olds, being able to pull off being 23.

"Don't worry its not like we're going to be drinking or anything. We're just going to have a good time!"

None of her words reassured me as I'm already so overwhelmed I feel tipsy. Unconsciously, my fingernails dug into my duvet. Ella crossed my room to the door and looked at me, cocking her hip.

"You coming?"

I gulped and got up slowly from my bed.

The music wasn't even as loud as I thought it would be from one block away. The streets were so crowded with cars we had to mix a bus ride and a six-block-long walk. It took even longer because Ella insisted on the "short-cuts."

We're standing in front of the doors and I am scared out of my wits. I shouldn't be doing this. I'm going to get arrested or something!

"Ella--" The brunette beside me gave me a look. "I mean, Karly, we really shouldn't be doing this!"

"Oh just live a little, Lily!" Ella said, getting a little too in to the act. "I know you hate clubs and all but this one is great, no need to worry!"

I wish I could lie like her. She even said it loud enough for everyone in line to hear, making sure our secret was concealed.

Only two more small groups stood between us, and the buff, but still feminine body guard.

One group... My palms started getting sweaty again and I rubbed my hands down on my dress.

"No! Lilly!" I froze expecting to be in huge trouble. "You'll wreck your dress."

I let out a huge sigh and just rubbed my sweaty hands together. The bracelet on my wrist must have been clanging louder than usual because I started getting looks. I immediately stopped; all the eyes on me made me even more nervous.

"Name please," the guard said with a bored tone.

"I'm Karly and that's Lilly, she's a little shy."

"I - uh... you know uh," I stumbled over trying to add stuff in, but my fears got the best of me.

I took a slight step closer to Karly and the door and my bracelet started to squeeze my wrist. I moved it up, rubbing my wrist and wincing.

The guard looked us up and down and eyed us carefully. "You don't look 21 or older..."
