“Aiden!” My best friend Gia yells from her car

“Get in!” she yells.

Gia has never been the patient type, always early never late.

I run down the steps of foster home of four years, that is probably the nicest one.  It has a nice paint job and garden. I like this house. These people are good people, unusual for foster parents.

I get in the car and hug Gia good morning. And this is going to be a good one. It’s May 30th, not only my 18th birthday but also the day of graduation! I am so happy this day is finally here!

Gia looks gorgeous, as always, her long straight black hair in a waterfall braid, she’s wearing an adorable, floral sundress and a pair of Toms to match. I am nothing in comparison; I have regular frizzy, long, brown hair that is in a messy top bun. I am wearing a t-shirt I bought for a dollar and some old jeans I made into shorts and Old Navy flip flops to boot! Aren’t I styling? And to make it worse, Gia is gorgeous! She has sparkling green eyes and beautiful bone structure. I on the other hand, am nothing special; I have an average face, blue eyes, and a button nose.  Boys have never looked at me the way they look at Gia, sure she is rich and gorgeous, but she also has the most outgoing and bubbly personality, whereas I shy away from people.  We are an unlikely pair but since we bonded in freshmen year, (my first year in the town) we have been inseparable.

“Hey Gi!”  I smile as she bursts into her off key version of Happy Birthday, I can't stop laughing.

“I love you Aiden! Happy birthday!”  She yells whens she’s done singing.

“I love you too!” I say as she pulls out a nicely wrapped box,

“Gia! I said no gifts!” I yell at her.

“Take it! Pllleeaaasseee!” She says with her puppy dog eyes.

I give in, my curiosity getting the best of me.  As I unwrap it my eyes widen I can’t believe it…

“Do you love it?” She asks grinning widely.

I’m shocked, no one has ever gotten me something nice like this before, I cant beieve it! An iPhone 4!

“Gia, I can't accept this…” I say trying to give it back to her.

“No, no, no!” She says, “I insist! It’s been all paid and programmed for you! Plus I'm going to need some way of contacting you when you’re off in L.A.! I still can't believe you’re going, leaving our little Kentucky and I behind!” She says tears filling her eyes.

“I know! I don’t know how I’ll survive without you! Thank you so much for this,” I say holding up the iPhone, “Thank you for everything.” I say.

“Don’t even think twice! You’re like my sister and I would do anything for you! Especially telling you to change…” She says scanning me up and down.

“I don’t look that bad…” I say noticing at how worn out my clothes look.

“Don’t worry I have a sundress like mine for you in the back.” She says starting the car, “Let’s get to school.” She starts the car and off we go.

Gia is the only person I have ever really let in, she is like my sister, and so leaving her will be the hardest part. I am leaving tomorrow morning for Los Angles. I'm going to pursue my singing career, I always have always had a good voice but I have always been to scared to let people listen. Gia is the only person to hear me sing, for real. Gia convinced me to go, and I decided to give it a shot, and since then I have been saving for a car.  I have been waiting to buy the car until today after school. I still can't believe this is possible, I have come so far…
