The legend of la Llorona

Origins

This legend originates from Mexico. She was a beautiful women who thought she deserves a handsome husband and when she found him they got married and had children. All was going well until she was walking next to a river alongside her kids when she spotted her husband with another woman. She was angry and out of rage she drowned all her children leaving them in a watery grave. Once she realized what she did she frantically search for her children in the river. And she died... when she reached the afterlife they denied her access until she found her children. And she is stuck on earth for all eternity.
