# I  wrote this story probabaly four or five years ago so please pardon any spelling or grammatical mistake. I have been quite busy lately but i will try to upload the following chapters as soon as possible..... till then stay tuned!!!:)

THE GRIM EVENING

It was one of the usual blackouts and again I had lost track of time. It was something I was getting used to by every passing day. I looked around me for a while after I came back to my senses. It was twilight. The windows of my room were wide open through which the setting sun spread out its fading, golden light and blazed the entire room.

I woke up from my trance as my cellular vibrated frantically on my bed. I glanced at my watch.

  4:30, I mused.

It was Alice. I answered the call.

 “Hello?”

“Jeez! Lean! Where the hell have you been? I have been trying to reach you for like an hour. Where was your cell phone?!”

“I…….I was dozing off, actually”, I said sheepishly. Blatant lie!

“Duh! “dozing off, actually” you……you were sleeping? Seriously? What’s the time now?”

 She sounded pissed.

I didn’t have a choice but to lie. Who would have believed me,anyway?I hadn’t told anyone about the blackouts….not even Alice. I felt a huge knot tighten in my pit at the thought of lying to her. We were not just friends, she was the closest person I had to a sister.

With a contrite tone I apologized, “I am so sorry; I couldn’t answer your call. I wasn’t feeling too good so I thought a little  repose would work out but then I ended up taking a long nap. Umm….I…..I am sorry.”

“Well, what else can I say now? Anyway forget it. You sound lost; are you sober enough to speak now?”, she asked earnestly.

I replied against my wish. “Yeah! I guess so. You can try me.”

“Erm…………its actually about Matt. Ring any bell?”, she asked doubtfully with a note of surprise mixed in it.

 “Oh…………ok. What about him?”

“Well ,Lean as far as I know, isn’t  Matt  leaving today?!.”

“What? Wasn’t he supposed to leave on the 2nd?”

“Um….and what makes you think that today isn’t the 2nd ?”

I opened my mouth to say something but I shut it again when I realized that I had nothing to say.I closed my eyes and banged my head against the pillar of the bed. Matt! How could it have slipped my mind?

“Alice”,I gasped but somehow my voice came out  shaky and soon I found myself holding back my tears.

 “Hey,are you alright?’,Alice asked worriedly.

“Nope,I don’t think so. When is Matt’s flight?”

“Um…after like one hour”,Alice said in a matter of fact tone.

“Pick me up near the supermarket,I am on my way”,I said throwing a jacket across my shoulder and rushing to the door.

Life is an unpredictable stage of affairs. We live, love and die but all throughout there is some unspoken feeling which keeps tugging at the back of our heads and the worst part is we never come to know what it is until it’s time to let go. When the pink sunset looks me directly in the face as if urging me to question it,I simply run out of words but random, familiar faces start flashing right in front of my eyes….that at first seem unrecognisable but as I slowly take them in I realize that they belong to the very people who have at some point of time come along in my life and turned it upside down making all the difference. How could I let them do so?!They made me complete and alive! How could they have left me and gone away, leaving behind all the memories that they alone don’t deserve to treasure from them?! Who has given them the right?!Could this sentient heart forever keep waiting for them to come back and make it alive and complete again?!!
