“Brooke! Wake up!” Maddie shook me violently.

“I’m up!” I yelled back at her from underneath my covers.

“Mum said if you’re late you’re going to have to catch a bus to school.” She explained. “Dad said you’re new car will be here by Sunday.” Maddie added before she ran out of my room.

I screamed and jumped on my bed.

“I’m getting my car!” I exclaimed at the top of my lungs.

“Hurry up!” Maddie yelled from outside my room.

I jumped down from my bed and turned my iPod dock on full blast. I ran into the shower for a quick rinse before choosing an outfit from the new clothes I bought the day before. I quickly checked myself out in the mirror as I brushed my teeth vigorously.  Running down the stairs, I sang along to one of my favourite songs.

“You’re happy.” Mum noted as I walked into the kitchen.

“I’m getting my car by Sunday,” I shook my hips around like a belly dancer while grabbing an apple.

“Finally!” She yelled with joy.

“I know right! I hate being dropped off like I’m in elementary school.” I smiled at her.

“I know deep inside you love riding with me.” Mum winked at me as she grabbed her keys off the table. “Let’s go,” She motioned my sister and I to the door with her head.

A depressing feeling fell over me as mum pulled up in the school car park. I slowly got out of the car and watched her drive away. As I walked fast into the school building and to my locker I searched around for Slayter. I felt a sudden urge to call him to find out where was but had to resist.

“I don’t want to look desperate, besides he said he’d call me.” I spoke to myself reassuringly.

I stood by my locker for another minute, scanning the hallway for Slayter before caving in and dialling his number. I put my phone by my ear and listened to the soft dialling tone.

“Who are you calling, Brooky?” A daunting voice came from behind me.

I turned around only to find Courtney and the rest of the cheerleading squad smirking at me.

In a flash, Courtney grabbed the phone from my hand. “Slayter!” She grinned as she turned and showed the girls his caller ID.

“Brooke, why do you have to be so desperate?” Courtney asked. “He’s never going to like you, no one likes you!” She yelled at me.

“Courtney!” I shouted her name as a tear ran down my face, “Stop it, just stop it!” I shrieked.

“Stop it Courtney, stop it!” She mocked me. “You really are pathetic.”
