'Wake up Alaska, it's your first day at Peninsula High' the idea of summer being over had haunted me ever since I moved to Australia. Because of my mums job id moved every year for the past 5 years, being the new girl for every beginning of every school year, but this year was different. Not only because we'd only been based in England for those 5 years but that this was the only school of which iI'd be staying at until University.

I'd been living in Australia since Christmas and I still wasn't used to the different season timings and the heat that came with them. While in England it'd be icy and cold with the feeling of knives being slowly impaled into your body, in Australia it was around 40 degrees with humidity in the air which gave me the feeling over my body being constantly sticky and over heated.

I peeled back the sheet which covered me during the night to give the impression that id cool during the night, evidently from the pool of sweat left on my mattress that theory didn't work. I opened my window, longing for a breeze to come and cool me down slightly yet the only thing that greeted me was the arrival of a huntsman spider, I wearily stared at the spider who seemed to carry the same expression as I did, fed up.

-'You two huh?' I groaned, I didn't bother to move the spider from it position on the window ledge, spiders never really bothered me. I picked up my towel and headed into the bathroom hoping that I could have a relaxing and cooling shower to atleast try and get rid of the sweat feeling on my body.

The shower in my room was pretty big, infact unnecessarily big. Mum had made sure she'd provided me with my own en suite, being the only girl out of 3 children mum decided bathroom facilities had to be private due to periods and the very slim possibility of getting pregnant. The feeling of cold water hitting your body while hot and sweaty was indescribable, the idea of having to get out made this matter much more luxurious.

I stopped the shower and grabbed my disney princess towel, unlike most teenage girls I enjoyed keeping in touch with my childish side, mind you unlike typical teenage girls I didn't like the idea of drugs, parties or sex with friends I'd rather spend my Friday nights on tumblr and catching up with American Horror Story.

-'Alaska, breakfast' my brother Rhys shouted from the kitchen. Rhys was my twin brother and the complete opposite as me, Rhys liked sex infact liked would be an understatement, Rhys loved sex, his whole life pretty much revolved around having sex with as many different girls as possible. Also Rhys was popular, no matter what school we moved too hhe'd be in the popular crowd whereas I was ignored and almost considered a social reject, I was hoping Australia would be a little different.

I wrapped my towel round my body and slowly made my way down to the kitchen. I took my seat at the island, my bagel already there.

-'Alaska please tell me you won't be a complete retard at this school, if you plan to be make sure you don't associate yourself with me'

-'Why would I want to associate myself with someone who carries round more STD's than there are known' I retorted before adding on 'tell me how many people Have you inpregnated?'

-'Alright you two, Alaska eat your bagel and get ready and Rhys stop calling your sister a retard as we all know sshe's the smartest out of all of us.' I felt like the comment my mum had just made deserved a high five, my brother not taking any notice of my mum and catching up on all the girls he fucked back home.

I returned to my room to finish preparing myself for the day ahead of me, the idea of starting a new school almost felt as if it were routine. I ripped open the cardboard box with the heading 'ALASKA SCHOOL' written in black marker, the box had been left untouched in the corner of my wardrobe, I pulled out my school uniform which needless to say was the most horrendous uniform I've ever seen. The colours red, yellow and black already gave me the impression that the schools policy was strict, after finally pulling out my uniform I found my leaflet on the rules applied to appearance.

Most of these school rules seemed decent however some were ridiculous

-UNIFORM MUST BE WORN CORRECTLY AS DISPLAYED BY THE PICTURE BELOW, ANY INCORRECT UNIFORM WILL BE PUT IN DETENTION OR EXCLUDED

-NO EXCESSIVE PIERCINGS

-ONLY SMALL STUDS FOR PIERCINGS, ANY EARRINGS NOTED AS TOO BIG WILL RESULT IN DETENTION

-ALL LONG HAIR MUST BE TIED BACK/MANAGED APPROPRIATELY

-NO HEAVY MAKEUP

-NO BRIGHT HAIR COLOURS

-NO SMOKING

-NO NAIL POLISH

-DRUGS TAKEN ON SITE WILL RESULT WITH PERMANENT EXCLUSION AND A CRIMINAL RECORD

-NO INAPPROPRIATE ACTIONS TO BE PERMITTED ON SITE

After taken the time to read the leaflet which contained absolute bullshit I started to get changed into my uniform.

-'MUM!' I screamed

-'What is it Alaska?' deep concern in her voice, that's the thing with my mum as she's a single parent she's very protective, it's her nature.

-'Mum look at me! I look like I belong at church camp I mean the skirt, just the skirt alone is the main problem and this blazer, are they trying to make it so all students die of heat exhaustion!'

-'Alaska, honey you're just nervous. I promise you, you'll fit in just fine and you'll make loads of friends' I couldn't help but admire my mum for having hope in me even though she knows every years the same, I start school, get ignored then leave its been the same cycle for 5 years.

After my mum left I finished getting my ugly uniform to try look a little bit more presentable. I went over to my mirror and vanity table, my hair was too long for the schools likings so I had to 'manage' it. My hair was the colour of light blonde to be honest it looked like I'd dyed it but I hadn't, my hair had natural loose curls which sometimes were flattering, other times were really annoying. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail at first before realising that my forehead was huge and my cheeks were anything but my best feature, i tried about 3 different other hairstyles before coming to the conclusion of having a messy fishtail plait.

I only had time for a small bit of liquid eyeliner and mascara before having to brush my teeth then leave for Peninsula.

-'Have a good first day both of you and tell me all about it when you get home' her voice grew fainter as Rhys and I both headed for the door before she started choking up. We both slammed the car doors whilst getting in as both of us wanted to drive however Rhys ended up winning as he 'needed to keep up his reputation' an argument I couldn't win as I have no reputation to withhold.
