                                              “Jack! Get your ass over here, now!” I whispered fiercely into the phone, not really giving a damn if what he was doing was important or not. I mean, I was deep into it at the moment and he, my partner, had deserted me when I’d most needed him.
                          “Shut it, Maia,” he practically growled back. “I’m in as deep into it as you are.” There was a brief silence while static crackled before Jack said, “I’m sending you help. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
                          “You’re what?”

                          The phone clicked off and I slammed my hand against my thigh, frustrated, before I closed my phone and shoved it into my pocket. I was going to murder Jack when this was over. Assuming, of course, we survived.
