The flutter of flags as they are tossed in the air

The shake of poms as their owners pump up the crowd

The cymbals clanging as the band marches

The smell of corn dogs, funnel cakes, popcorn

The officer's whistle blowing to announce the beginning of a dance

The sound of the fans in the stands cheering,

United as one man in their cries for a win,

Screaming "OFFENSE!" and "DEFENSE!"

The creaking of the bleachers as the fans jump to their feet,

Anxious to see if their quarterback will succeed

The rush as a touchdown is made

The buzzer sounds as the game ends

The smiles on the faces of the victors

The handshakes of those who have lost

The long bus ride home and

The experiences and memories

That made it all worth it

These are the things of autumn
