Chapter one

6'oclock, Monday Morning, Cardiff.

Gwen cooper was awakened by Anwen giggling and she sat and listened to her husband voice talking gently to their daughter.She couldn't help but think about the last year, the return of Captain Jack, the end of miracle day, the death of her beloved father and of the three families.The english and the americain government begged for torchwoods help to get the world back to normal whilst the rest of the world beleived it washallucinogenic drug in their water making the whole world have the same hallucinations. Therefore meaning the world ended up back tonormal in no time with people going back to work, back to school and back to how it was before the whole world became immortal. Amongst this though Jack, Gwen and Rex where preparing for the family to cause chaous.

The hub in Cardiff was rebuilt and a hub was also built-in secret beneath the CIA. Gwen made her way to work and as she looked across the bay and looked at all the people rushing by, she couldn't help but smile because the earth beneath her feet felt safe and even though a Dalek ship could invade her perfect earth for that minute she stood looking around, the earth was safe.

"Morning Gwen, when you get a chance will you go and check out Burbank street cause we had strong rift activity earlier?"Jack ordered not long after she entered the hub. She looked up at him and nodded and in return he smiled and climbed the winding glass stairs to his office. She looked around the new hub, it was still huge and way below the surface of the bay but it was a lot different from the hub from the old days which seemed a million years ago. Slap Bang in the middle of the hub was the tower surrounded by a glass window and around the room was lots of doors leading of to different parts of the hub. Gwen made her way over to the work area which was not that much different from the old hub. The computers and the equipment sat on a raised platform. Gwen then investigated the rift activity and just seconds before she was about to set out for Burbank street, the system warning noise was overwhelming and as she quickly peered at the monitors there was rift activity all over the city.

Jack came rushing out of his office with a look of horror on his face and not long after that a young red-head dressed in a lab coat was by his side with a matching look upon her freckled face. "Who's this Jack?" Gwen asked sounding confused.

"Gwen this is Penny. Our new doctor." He said without taking his eyes from the computers "nows not the time for a cosy chat." Gwen kept quiet and looked at the reading on a different computer.

"Jack i think you'd better take a look at this" Gwen looked up at the unfamiliar voice and realised Penny was the one speaking. Jack and Gwen gathered around Penny's computer and within minutes of reading and watching footage they realised that the rift where taking people. Jack ran across the room onto the raising platform and it took him up onto the bay. 

When Gwen and Penny caught up with him they where both breathless. Gwen couldn't believe her eyes it was hard to believe that the bay was full of people just twenty minutes ago since now there was hardly a person in sight. The silence was unbearable. " What happening jack?"  Gwen asked horrified. 

"The rift is taking people but its like its being controlled to warn us.."

"Warn us of what jack? If anything has happened to Rhys or Anwen I swear to god jack I will find a way to kill you!" She threatened him with a look of fury in her hazel eyes.

"Nothing has happened to them Gwen I promise. There was no rift activity near your house I checked." He replied grabbing both her forearms and looking into her eyes. Before she even had a chance to reply the ringing of Jacks phone made him let go. Whilst he was talking rapidly into his phone she looked at Penny and realised how frightened she looked and she gave her a reassuring smile. Being strong was important to Gwen and seeing how vulnerable Penny was made her feel calm. Jack put away his phone into the pocket of his vintage coat and then he spoke and broke the silence which seemed never-ending.  

"That was Torchwood CIA. Rex has dissappeared, the rift took him." Gwen eyes searched Jack's worrying face. "Someone has found a way of controlling the rift because the people the rift is taking isn't random." Gwen opened her mouth to reply but she saw jacks eyes wide with panic and she realised  that where Penny was stood was empty. The rift had took her, like it had took rex.
