The Winter King stood in the presence of the Summer Queen and the two solitary Fae chosen to succeed the dark throne. The chaos that had gripped the Dark court the past hundred years had finally forced their hand.

The surroundings were in chaos just like the court, things that froze, melted and boiling hot scorches mingled with terrible frost bites. Passion and fear grew heightened in the presence of the Dark Kings to be.
The monarchs of three opposing courts battled in the small space for dominance. Winter and summer clashed vigorously as the corrupt passions of the Dark court affected them all.

The Winter King spoke softly despite it all; the oasis in his stormy eyes hailing into a restless sea.

"Do you freely accept that the Dark court will have no rest, or substantial leader until one of the two successors finds a Queen. That there will be only one Dark Queen and therefore only one successor to the throne. That those who take the challenge who are not her, will perish in the corruption of your court and those who do not take the challenge will become an extension of the both you and the Dark court."

"We do." Confirmed the two solitary Fae before him, both too alike in their appearances. The Dark court energy thrummed beneath their skin but it was chaotic and unstable.

The Summer Queen came forth, a radiant light in the darkness, struggling to keep her sunlight under control as she fought to stand in the same room as her alternate courts.

"You understand that failure to find your queen, may directly result in the weakening and end of the dark court" she called over the rough winds that had grown inside the room, threatening to become a tornado. "You understand that while you both pursue the queen, both must warn her what a folly it is to trust the other, that she must accept the challenge on the behalf of only one of you of her own free will."

"We understand."

The Summer Queen looked into each of their eyes, seeing the capability to rule within both of them. The Dark court was a frightening but necessary nemesis of her court. She knew that what they were doing was dangerous and could potentially tip the balance disastrously if the two Fae before her failed to break the curse they were about to set.
As long as there was no true king to control them the Dark Fae would be dangerous to others and themselves.

The chaos they had all witnessed would only be the beginning, but it had to be done.

The room rattled with the wild, miniature storm taking place within but the summer Queen spoke as if the world were silent, letting the fear of what was to come briefly take hold.
A dying star flitted across her eyes.

"Then until the Dark Queen is found the Dark court will know no true King."
