Adult Orphans by Antony Alldis

They were here all of our lives

Taking care of us

Protecting us

Loving us

The void when they are gone

Is unmeasurable

A vital link to our past

Has disappeared

They knew us better

Than we knew ourselves

Bonded by genetics

And love

A bond that is now

Broken...

By age

By natural causes

By the bloodied boney hands

Of the scythe swinging Reaper

I stand with my siblings

Cold and in shock

Numb and confused

Together...

But alone

We are now Adult Orphans

We hug each other

In the knowledge

That if mum and dad were still here

They would hug us too
