Day 26: A Creepy Cottage

I looked up at the little cottage before me. I took in a huge breath and thought,"Why do I have to stay here?" Well I knew why. It's because I'm being forced to stay with my grandma while my parents are doing....stuff. They never told me what stuff, just stuff.

The longer I looked at the place the more uneasy I felt. I was nestled deep in the woods with thick pine trees all around. The path leading up to it winded between all the trees. It was clear they didn't want to cut a single one down. It didn't look like it was in to bad of shape, but it did look like a house the pioneers built when they moved out west. With the wooden logs making up the walls and roof making it look like something straight out of "Little House on the Prairie".

I pulled my bags up to the front door, wooden like the rest, and knocked. The front had a porch running the entire length of the house. The door open to reveal my grandma in a floral dress. I had only seen her a couple time but she looked the same.

"Oh hello, Cassandra. Glad to see you made it safely." she said as she engulfed me with a hug.

"Good to see you too, Gram." I replied.

"Your parents didn't walk you to the door?" Gram asked as I pulled my bags inside.

"Nope they seemed to be in a hurry." I said as I got a good look at the place. On one half of the room was a living room and on the other was the kitchen with a staircase in the middle. The wall were covered with different pieces of art. A huge, brick fireplace in the living room was lighting up almost the entire room.

"Your room will be upstairs and to your left if you want to place your bags in there." Gram said as she made her way to the kitchen. I made my way up the stairs and down the hall. Even though this place look older than our country, had running water and electricity. Thank God. My room was pretty small. It had a full size bed with a large quilt with a snow-covered forest etched on it. There was also a good sized window opposite to the door. It had a nice view of the outside forest and the winding path I just walked to get here.

I dropped my stuff off and headed back downstairs and was greeted with a delicious smell.

"What are we having for dinner?" I asked as I entered the kitchen. We arrived pretty late in the day. The sun was already down. Got to love those short winter days. I was also starving.

"One of your favorites. Chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes. Perfect for a cold night like this." Gram said. "I think it's just about done."

After grabbing a glass of apple juice and serving myself, we sat down at the small kitchen table and started to eat. Of course Gram asked all the normal questions like, "How's school?" I told her I was on winter break and school was going great. She also asked about why my parents brought me here. Looks like they didn't tell her either.

After helping clean up and having some ice cream for dessert, we moved over the the living room. I looked at the glass cases that were beside the TV and I saw a bunch of board games. My mom did tell me that Gram loved playing board games. I guess she noticed me eyeing them.

"Do you want to play one?" she asked.

"Sure. How about Scrabble?" she agreed and we played that game the rest of the night. She did beat me. That was no surprise. She then said that she was going to go to bed. I decided to stay up a little longer since it was only 8:30.

I went upstairs and changed into my pajamas, grabbed a book and went back downstairs to sit next to the fire. Also the couches were very comfy.

I was just sitting reading until I heard a knock. I instantly looked up toward the stairs but the light from the left side was still on. I got up and went towards the stairs but the right hallway was dark. I shrugged it off and thought it was a tree or some wild animal. I glanced at the clock above the fireplace. 9:46. I decided to start getting ready for bed.

I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth when I heard it again. This time it was two knocks. I quickly finish and went to my window. It had started to snow and it was snowing hard. I didn't want to go back downstairs for I had turned of all the lights and the fireplace before I went up. I went into my room and shut the door. I hoped I won't heard the knocking again. I closed the blinds and slipped under the covers. I hesitated to turned the light off but I did and a wave of sleepiness hit me so I was soon asleep.

Hey there. Again posting this late at night even though I've done absolutely nothing. Go me. Anyway I liked writing this even though the cottage wasn't really creepy. I have to wake up early tomorrow for a Marching Band practice. I hope you had a great day. Until next lovelies.....
