Winter 2011
I walked through Gangnam-Gu Seoul, in the cold winter evening, my old and worn winter coat didn't provide any comfort. As I walked alone along the streets finding my way to my new apartment, I noticed all the tall buildings in this area. They didn't call this the most affluent area in Korea for nothing. I then caught myself touching my Ryeowook keychain on my bag. I immediately placed my hand back to my sides. As an international student in Korea, I was provided my own apartment near the school, which was apparantly somewhere in this area where there are so many buildings that I couldn't keep track. I circled round and round the area.
Didn't I pass by this building a while ago? A map would have been helpful.
Tired, cold and hungry, I decided to ask a passer-by. My basic Korean learnt in a 6- lessons $66 course decided to abandon me, and my mind was a blank. I just stood in the middle of the path, with plenty of people passing by me, all of them with clues on how to reach my new home.
Screw this let's just ask this guy.
"Hello, may I know where I could get here?" I say as I shoved my notepad into the guy's face. I just looked at the ground, hoping, miraculously, that he could understand English.
"Yeah, just walk straight till you reach a bus stop..." He said in a low voice.
Shocked, I lifted my head and saw him...
