Chapter Three

“Liana!” I looked up to find Acario carrying two beers and looking relieved, “Oh thank god! Why did you come out here? I was so worried when I couldn’t find you!” He pulled me into a hug, spilling beer on both of us.

“Sorry, there was a ghost to deal with,” As he pulled away, I grabbed one of the beers and downed it. What better way to deal with the situation than by drinking? It’s not like it’s bad for you or anything. “We have trouble, Acario.”

“What happened?”

“I think there’s a necromancer in town.” A necromancer was a person who dealt with very dark magic. They revived the dead using said dark magic to push souls out of their own bodies and replace it with a different one which they then have control over. I hoped to never meet one but my luck obviously just ran out.

“What? Why do you think that?” As I recounted my encounter with Ben, I managed to finish off the second bottle of beer. I was seriously spooked and the beer was helping me forget.

“Ok, we should probably get home then,” Acario commented after I finished off my unbelievable story. I nodded, wanting to get as far away from this place as possible. As soon as I stood up, I fell straight back down. I could feel the effects of the two bottles of beer I downed in five minutes along with the other six and the end result was me on the ground.

Acario helped me up, “Are you ok?”

“I may have forgotten how to walk,” I giggled as Acario slipped an arm around my waist, “That’s ticklish!”

He rolled his eyes at me, “You are drunk aren’t you?”

“Who?” I looked around then my eyes widened in realisation, “Me? I don’t think so!” Luckily we lived close by and soon I was lying on my bed as Acario removed my shoes for me.

“You should get some sleep,” He was about to walk out of my room but I pulled him down to the bed with strength I didn’t even know I had.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

He laughed and wrapped his arms around me, “Obviously nowhere,” He kissed me gently and I, being the awesome person that I am, fell asleep.

I awoke the next morning to the delicious smell of bacon. Groggily I stumbled into the kitchen where Acario stood in all his sexy glory. Seriously, I have yet to see an ugly side to that boy. It was annoying!

“Morning sleepyhead,” He grinned as I hugged him from behind, still trying to wake up.

“What’s the time?”

“Eleven,” He laughed as I groaned, “Hungover?”

I released him and looked into the fry pan, “Nah, I only had beer so I’m fine. How much longer? I want bacon!”

“So impatient. Give me five minutes.”

“Five minutes!? I want bacon, now!”

Acario stuck his tongue out at me before slapping me on the butt, “Go clean yourself up, you reek of beer!”

“Well aren’t you a lovely boyfriend? That bacon better be ready before I come out or I am going to use my superpowers on you!” With that I stuck my tongue out at him and walked into the bathroom to clean myself up.

That afternoon I sat at the University bar, waiting for Acario. The university bar was located on campus, close to the human sciences building. It was quite a decent sized with the bar located on the far right wall. There were pool tables and even a stage where some bands played. Along the far left side there were a dozen or so booths and tables were scatted around wherever there was space. The walls were all painted black and the floors were polished floorboards. The vibe in the bar was kind of dark but it worked well.

Acario had a class at two and once he was finished he promised to meet me. I had already finished half of my beer when he showed up,

“Sorry I was late, the students kept asking questions. Seriously! They are actually interested in the subject.”

“Shock! I’ll wait here while you get us both a drink,”

“But you’ve still got half left!” He complained, pulling his wallet out of his bag,

“I won’t by the time you’re back. Now chop chop!” With a glare he went to grab us more drinks. Flora popped into the seat next to me, startling me. I almost knocked over my beer as she cackled,

“Good to see I’ve still got it!”

I glared at her, “What do you want?” I whispered to her. Although the bar was almost empty, I didn’t want anybody to overhear me.

“Just popping in to say hello,” She glanced at my beer which I quickly consumed because Acario was coming back, “You drink too much,”

Acario placed my new beer in front of me and turned to Flora, “I agree. You should try to control her.”

“Hey, nobody controls me. Plus, drinking is a part of the university experience. Lighten up you guys.” And with that speech, I took a great big gulp of my beer to prove my point.

“So ladylike,” Acario commented, grimacing at me. I shot him an ‘I don’t care what you think’ look. Yes, I did have that kind of look, it took years of practice but I had finally nailed it. All those years of looking at myself in the mirror finally paid off.

“Anyway I was just dropping in to see how things are going. I know that you two want more privacy so I’ll be off.” And with that she disappeared. I noticed recently that the spirits had been hanging around me less and less often, obviously trying to give Acario and I space. It did make me realise that they only hung out with me before because I had no friends. I wasn’t sure how I felt about dead people pitying me…kind of pathetic. Luckily I knew I was awesome company for them so that takes back any patheticness (is that even a word?) there was.

“Hey is patheticness a word?”

Acario raised his eyebrows, “I don’t think so. What are you thinking about?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” I teased. The next two hours we spent teasing each other, talking and downing beers like fish. By the time we decided to go home for dinner, I was feeling a slight buzz. I pulled Acario behind the bar where nobody ever went and kissed him hungrily.

“Woah, what’s that for?”

“I wanted to do that in the bar but there were people there. Now we’re all alone,” I traced my finger up his chest and grinned.

“Think again,” My neck turned so quickly, I swear I got whiplash. There was a girl standing at the corner of the bar and grinning. The girl had long dark blonde hair and dark blue eyes. She was slim although her bust was rather noticeable as she was wearing a skin tight white t-shirt with black skinny jeans and black high heels. The most noticeable feature though was the blackness swirling around her, “Remember me, Liana?”

I stared at her in disbelief, “Ben?”
