Please note that Life Inside the Dead Zone takes place in an alternate version of our world, obviously. This would likely become obvious as the story progresses even without this note, but I felt like I should at least mention it so that it can explain some variations in history and in geographical locales. In other words, this allows me to exercise more creative liberties with the descriptions of places and things.
In essence, this Author's Note is more for my own benefit than for yours. That said, I hope you won't hold it against me.
