I woke up the next morning with a throbbing headache that hadn’t improved since 2am when Emily woke me up, claiming to have a cough but instead was craving attention. I knew the first thing I’d have to do was take some headache meds, because today I couldn’t just lie in as usual- today I started my dream job. Thinking of this, I jump enthusiastically out of bed and glance at the clock- I had an hour to get ready, drop Emily at my parent’s house, and get to the studio. I knew it was game on from this point on.

I make my way to the kitchen and proceed to make myself strawberry jam on toast for Emily and I, before I go and wake her up and get her dressed, ready to take her around to her grandparent’s house. It was odd because they were only in their mid-forties. She runs out and eats her toast and I follow right behind her, desperate for something in my stomach. I was starving. I leave Emily to eat the rest as I retreat to my room where I continue to get changed into a pair of sweat shorts (sounds odd, I realized that) and a simple t-shirt- we’d be fitted for our costumes today so it didn’t really matter what I wore anyway.

As soon as I pack what I’ll need in my backpack, I glance at the clock. 15 minutes- I’d done well.

“Emily baby, time to go!” I holler down the hall. I’d packed Emily’s bag the previous day because somehow, I’d predicted that we’d be stretched for time. I pick up all her belongings that she’d need over the next few days and rethink about it a few times before concluding the search and scooping Emily up into my other arm.

“Are we going to Nanna and Poppa’s house?” She frowns, looking down at her bag.

“You’ll be staying there for a few days, is that okay?” I press my lips to her cheek, and lock the door behind myself.

“Okay.” She nods and I lift her into the car, placing the bags at her feet.

As soon as we pull up to my parent’s place, I see my mother emerge from the house, a massive grin on her face. Emily starts to get excited and shout ‘Nanna! Nanna!’ through the window, just encouraging my mother to come and collect her herself.

“Hi mum.” I smile, taking Emily’s bags from the car.

“Hi love. Are you going to work?” A grin appears on my own face, thinking about what I can now define as work. I was pleased to say the least.

“That’s where I’m planning on going. You don’t mind taking Em for a little while, do you?”

“Of course not,” she shrugs “She’s a darling.” She states as she unwraps Emily’s seatbelt and hoists her up into her arms.

“I’ll be going then! See you Monday mum.”  I wave as I hop in the car, and I see Emily wave through the window. I blow a kiss as I reverse out of their driveway, and before I know it, I’m parking in the very spot I was parked in yesterday.

‘You know where to find us.’ Read the sticky note taped to the door. I assumed it was for Courtney and I so I proceeded through to the same studio I was in yesterday to find Danielle and Irdina prancing around the studio, not actually rehearsing what we were performing. I cleared my throat, just to let them know I had arrived.

“Oh good you’re slightly early! Come, I’ve got the costumes ready! Hair and make-up is next.” Irdina exclaims and I nod and smile. Danielle waves from behind her, and I flash a smile back at her. I follow Irdina into a large room with costumes scattered on racks and at least 15 counters lined up for make-up and hair.

“Why am I getting my hair and make-up today?” I question, cocking my head to the side.

“Because our make-up artists aren’t free until the nights, so I booked them today.” Irdina grins, pulling out a very revealing costume. There were 7 left on the rack, and I supposed there were going to be 7 other girls dancing with me. Each costume was the exact same- A loose dark blue corset type top that came up until above the belly button and quite short gold shorts, that were only just long enough to cover everything.
