CHAPTER ONE

__________________________________________________________

I was on my way home when I came to an abrupt halt, almost tripping up the woman behind me.

"Merde! Imbécile!"

"Sorry!"

I yelled as she stalked off cursing another word over her shoulder. She really worked up my temper so I screamed,

"Waste of breath! I don’t speak French!"

Either the woman didn’t hear or she didn’t care at all. I felt myself shrink once more.

I really don’t belong here, I thought to myself. The buildings around me were just like that women: tall, proud, elegant. The air was heady and rich, an elusive combination of expensive scent. Even the name of the street wasn’t something I liked.

I walked forward looking around at all the people coming out of the stores from each side of the street. Women gossiping about the latest trend, others talking about the “wonderful” life of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. There wasn’t one person in this city that cared about their own living. That’s why I applied myself to Blanken Academy. A school which people cared about their studies and achievements. A place where I could be myself. A place where-

“Mikayla!”

I looked around looking for that irritating sound which interrupted my thoughts.

“Mikayla! Look Here!”

I looked to my left and saw my Jake sitting at a bench in front of the shoe store. I rolled my eyes at him and fake smiled.

Jake's my ex-boyfriend. We were dating for about four months until I decided that our relationship should end. His parents didn't quite like me and it was almost impossible to go to his house without being glared at.

I looked at Jake with a questioning look on my face.

"So Mikayla, I was thinking about our relationship and i found a great way for us to-"

"Look Jake. I'm flattered that you want to get back together with me but It just doesn't feel ri-"

"Oh then don't worry about it. I understand."

He had a sad look in his eyes as he stood up from the bench. I felt bad for him. I really did like him but I don't think the feud between his family and me was going to help our relationship in any way. I stopped him, stood on my tippy toes and kissed him gently on the cheeks. I felt his cheek burn up and noticed his eyes popped out of their sockets. When I moved away from him, he leant down and tried to return another kiss. I stopped him with my index finger and shook my head.

"Were just friends."

I smiled and walked away. You know what, maybe this day could get better.

                                                                  *********

I reached my house in less than ten minutes. Before I even touched the knob, my mum came screaming out with a envelope in her hand.

"Honey! You got in! They accepted you."

Before letting me get a word out of my mouth, she came to me and hugged me so tight that I couldn't breathe.

"Mum. I-I can- bre-"

She noticed I was trying to talk and let go of me feeling ashamed. I snatched the envelope from her hand an opened it.

It read:

Dear Mikayla Williams,

You have been accepted into Blanken Academy. Your achievements and accomplishments were delightful and seeing that your permanent record had no trace of an inappropriate detail on it.

And a bunch of other things. It had the book list at the back of the page and the fee. I looked at my mum afraid that she will make an excuse of how she cant afford to pay it.

"I will give you all the money you need to attend this academy."

I smiled. I was finally going to Blanken Academy. Where my dreams will come true!
