Scene Thirty-Eight:

The first thought that entered Jordan's mind wasn't even much of a thought, it was a question. The more he felt this absurd, cooling sensation drip onto his face, the more he wondered if he was still laying on the ground after the quick and horrendous accident. It was a sensible question, actually. He imagined his battered body lazy haphazardly on the ground, his body being subjected to the rain that was inevitable in Fort Wayne.

And once Jordan surprisingly regained his hearing, and his ears perked at the sound of machines beeping and working away, he then concluded that the rain was dripping onto his face from a crack in the ceiling above him. His fingers grazed the softness of sheets soon after he heard the noises and his mind surmised that he was in a hospital room, since Jordan had plenty of experience to conclude so.

The more Jordan realized how very alive he was, the more he became alive to the world around him. No longer was his hearing dulled to a silent hum. Jordan could hear this ragged, almost wheezing type of breathing -- which was coming from himself, and the soft whispers of someone else near him. His touch was more sensitive to his surroundings, eagerly accepting the newness of this environment around him.

The only problems were his sight and smell, which weighed him down heavily. The more he tried to breathe through his nose, the more pain he felt and it made Jordan want to wince and hiss. But his lack of sight troubled him the most. He wanted, needed, to open his eyes and see the reality in front of him. To soothe the person who was softly crying in the room. Jordan just wanted to adapt to his new situation and without his sight, he felt vulnerable and bare.

Those feelings of vulnerability led Jordan to also want to be coddled by Christofer, to feel safe and secure like he always did whenever he was around. Yet, he knew that that safe-haven was no longer his. Jordan's entire loving relationship was now thoroughly ruined and by such a simple, materialistic object such as an engagement ring.

Jordan felt the oncoming sobs wrack through his chest, which burned as though a fire lit itself inside of him. He choked and gagged, his fingers curling into the fabric beneath him to suppress the pain he felt blazing inside of him.

A cool hand immediately pressed itself against the clammy skin of Jordan's cheek, instantly soothing the storm raging in his weary body. Jordan involuntarily pressed himself further into the touch of the stranger, who seemed all too familiar to his body.

Jordan heard the quick drop in his heart rate, which was beeping loudly only moments ago.

"I know you can hear me," The voice said, softly. The stranger's finger slid against Jordan's cheek, dipping towards his dry and cracked lips. "And I want you to know that if you ever scare me like that again, I will not only kick your butt, but I will also chain you to me so you may never relive something as dangerous as that ever again." The stranger's voice quivered before they released another cry, their hand slipped away from Jordan. "Please." The stranger cried, a thump issuing itself afterwards. Jordan assumed they had fallen to their knees, since his seeing impairment couldn't provide him otherwise. "Wake up, for me. I need you to be awake for what I have to say. I don't want you to ever think twice about what I feel for you. If you could just open your eyes and see my face, you'd never doubt my love for you." A strong hand gripped Jordan's dainty, bruised one. And just like that, that stranger's hold tethered Jordan to the world like an anchor holding a ship. No longer did he feel his body waver or falter, he felt a sudden pressure building itself upon his aching eyes and a rhythmic pounding settle between his brows. Wielding the strength from the grip if the stranger in his hospital room, Jordan slowly peeled his eyelids back to reveal a blurry and bright image.
