Distant screams awoke me from my daze. My head spun like I had fallen and I realised I had. I sat up shocked. I was surrounded by smoke that I could hardly see through. My lungs were desperate for air as I coughed uncontrollably.

“Mom?!” I croaked out  through my coughs. My head was spinning from the toxic smoke that was filling my lungs like poison.

I got up shakily and made my way to the door of my room. The door frame which was normally white turned a black colour as I grabbed onto  it for support and pain surged through my hand. I cried out in agony and quickly took it off the door.

I soothed my hand better even though I could still feel a stinging pain, I desperately ignored it and counted down from ten. Before making my way out to our corridor.

It was like I was swimming through smoke as I reached my little sister’s room. “Molly?” I cried out choking on the y. I weakly walked into the room but she wasn’t there. I began to panic and ran to my mom’s room. “Mom?!” I cried again and tears started to fall down my cheeks. I saw figures by the bed and rushed up to them.

My mom was bent over Molly, tears falling from her eyes. “Mom?!” I asked cautiously and bent down beside her. She was coughing as well but Molly laid still. I looked at her limp body but I noticed she didn’t move. “Molly?” I whimpered. I started to shake my sister but she would wake up. My mom started sobbing more and I joined in with her. My sister was dead.

I wiped them away furiously as I knew we had to get out of here and quick. “Mom where’s dad and Sammy?” I asked through my tears, we had to get out of here.  My mom looked up at me with weary eyes. “I-I don’t know,” She coughed.

I got up and tugged at my mother. The smoke was getting too much and I covered my mouth with my sleeve. “Mom we have to go?” I told her crying but she didn’t move only looked at Molly’s lifeless body like she was in a trance.

“Come on,” I screamed in anger and her eyes shot up at me.

“I want to go with her,” She stated and looked back down at Molly. I was shocked by her words. She couldn’t give up.

“Pleas,” I coughed pausing. “Please,” I begged her again but she wouldn’t budge.

“Mom,” I sobbed and she seemed to react. She grabbed my hand and pulled herself up before picking up Molly and cradled her in her arms. “Where’s dad?” I asked again struggling through the house to the kitchen. My mom was shortly behind me carrying Molly.

She didn’t answer just followed me and then It hit me like a tidal wave of heat. The warmth of the kitchen sent my body in pain like a force pushing me back. I struggled further noticing my mother had stopped but I didn’t care I needed to find my dad and my little brother. The smoke was getting thicker and a loud ringing came into hearing. The smoke alarm. “Dad?” I choked out still making my way through the thick fog of smoke.

I came to a set of feet on the floor and looked down in horror. My dad laid motionless on the floor blood spilling on the tiles. A sob escaped me and I knelt down to my dad’s unmoving body.

“Daddy?” I cried through sobs and put my hand on his pulse. After seconds of waiting I knew He didn’t have a heartbeat. I sobbed harder fogging my vision. I had to find my brother.

“Sammy?!” I screamed in pain and choked on the air it was getting harder for me to breathe and I knew I wouldn’t last much longer.

I got up from the floor blood soaking my sleeves and I covered my mouth trying to clear the air.

“Sammy?” I cried out again but I couldn’t hear over the loud ringing of the smoke alarm.

The heat was eating at my face but I had to go further, until I reached fire. It Angrily covering  the door to the lounge and I heard a scream from behind me. I realised it was my mothers. I turned to look back but I couldn’t see through the smoke.

I was starting to lose focus and the room around me seemed to blur away. “Ashy?” I heard Sammy’s voice croaking from beside me. I looked down to find Sammy tugging at my jeans laying on the floor coughing up blood.

“Oh baby!” I cried and hugged him tight. I clung to him like nothing else mattered.

I leaned back and stared in shock. Sammy’s eyes were closed and I started shaking him violently. “Sammy!” I screamed but he didn’t move.

Sobs escaped me as I cradled him to my chest. I had to get out of here and get help.

I made my way back through the kitchen to find my mother staring distantly at the floor. Molly still tightly tucked into her chest.

She followed me to the door and I creaked it open. The clean air invaded my lungs as I sighed in relief. . I stepped into our front yard.

But before I knew it I felt Sammy being tugged from my arms and I started screaming for him back.  Flashing lights fuzzed my view and I was soon on the ground.
