Chapter Three

Bonding

My day started out kind of like this:

Sleeping in Art, which Mr. Discord disapproved of, naturally being him, but I understand why, taking notes non stop in Myths and Legends, something I used to never do, much to the surprise of Ms. Temperley, then it was, sleep, even more sleep, draw, and now lunch. I was sitting with Midbus, Arella, Kasa and Maxim.

Kasa and Maxim are frequently seen together, which is strange, considering how different they are. Kasa is quiet, and I mean quiet. It took a lot to get her to open up more around me, and even now, she is so shy. It always makes me wonder how she gets on well with Maxim. He kind of irritates me with his tomfoolery and antics. One of these days he will get hurt.

I layed my head down in front of my lunch bag, not even opening it. Arella had pulled out aluminum foil wrapped up in te shape of a triangle. That means she has pizza. Hey, nothing gourmet in Suughdown. We take what we can get. We have an excellant food source, it's just nothing too hoity toity like Larvella's food. Midbus had a salad, and Kasa pulled out a ham sandwich. I sighed. "Come on, Lorelei, spill," Kasa mumbled quietly as she pulled out an orange.

I sighed again before lifting my head to open my bag. "It's nothing," I said, grabbing a container that seemed to have some sort of pasta in it. Probably pasta salad. Millie tends to pack leftover dinners as my lunch, and last night we had pasta salad. "Really, it's not. I'm just thinking..."

"Thinking with your head on the table?" Midbus inquired.

"Lorelei, you've been saying it's nothing for the past week," said Arella. "That drops the hint that it is something. Tell the truth," she added.

I opened my container. "What else do you want me to say? There's literally nothing else for me to say to you guys," I told her.

The table went silent. All I could hear was the students around us, and the loud chewing coming from Maxim. I covered my ears. I didn't want to listen to that. Midbus placed a finger on his mouth before saying, "I had a dream about a cockatrice last night." He's random like that.

"What?" Maxim said. "Did you say cockatrice?"

"Yes, Maxim," replied Midbus. "It has the body of a reptile, and the head of a chicken. They are known to have the power to turn a person who looks into their eyes into stone."

"Like Medusa?" Arella confirmed.

"Exactly," Midbus said. "Basically, the cockatrice came to Suughdown, and it tried turning everyone into stone. It only got one person."

I looked at Midbus with wide eyes. He chuckled. "Don't worry, Lorelei, it was not you." I sighed. "It was actually Monty," he added. Arella burst out laughing, Kasa spit out her drink and covered her mouth, grinning. Maxim raised an eyebrow. "Whoa, now, you guys would probably laugh louder if it was I who got turned into stone."

"I wouldn't," Kasa said.

Maxim nodded. From the corner of my eye, I could see Monty sneak around the pillars of the cafeteria. What is that moron doing? I thought to myself. "I'll be right back guys," I said. Arella looked up from her pizza. "Where are you going?"

"I want to see something." I held my hand out, signalling her to stay where she is. I got up from my seat and followed Monty. "Lorelei!" I heard Arella called out. But I ignored it. What could Monty possibly be doing? Whatever it is, it's pretty suspisious... I stealthly tiptoed after Monty. I felt like a snake. Just as I was catching up to Monty, I heard breathing behind me.

"What are you doing?" It was Cinigma, coming out of no where randomly like he always does. "Why are following Monty? Last I was aware, you hated him. And you hated the fact that he wants you to be his girlfriend. Don't tell me you've finally realize you have feelings for him. If you have, congratualtions!" Cignima took my right hand in both of his and started to shake it as if I had won an award. "I'm so proud of you!" I rolled my eyes as I pulled my hand out of his grasp.
