Demetri's POV

I had to finally get Jace out of my house. He had calmed down after Rayne left, but now that he was about to leave, he was getting worked up again.

"-Fucking bastard bitch! I swear to hell when I see him again, I'll kill him, Demetri, and you're not going to fucking stop me!" He was yelling, and I covered his mouth with my hands, wishing I had a voice. This was difficult for me, since I couldn't tell him to shut up. He finally calmed down, realizing I wanted to have a say in it, so I signed to him.

You did start it, so calm down. You don't know what he's been through; he's nicer than you think. And if you hurt him, I'll kick YOUR ass, Jace. I'm serious, just leave him alone and stay out of each others' way.

He glared at me, and stood up. "Yeah, whatever. Fuck off, Demetri." he said, and with that, he turned for the door.

Love you too, asshole. I signed, in bad humor. He glared and I glared back until he shut my front door. I sank down in a stool by the island and stared at where Rayne had been just two hours ago. No doubt this would send him over the edge. I couldn't let that happen.

I stood up, pulled on my sneakers and jacket, and started walking towards Rayne's house, hoping to God that I had the right address.

Ten minutes later I was staring at a dark grey house with a small front porch, looking slightly desolate. I walked over to the front door and knocked tentatively. I didn't hear any movement inside the house, but suddenly, the door was open and I was staring at Rayne. He blinked in surprise and then scowled at me. His face had gotten pretty bad, though Jace wasn't looking so good either.

"What do you want?" He asked, looking past me into the street.

I pulled out a paper and pen I had stuffed into my jacket pocket and wrote against his shoulder,

I wanted to see if you were okay.

He shrugged, flinching slightly as though it hurt to do so.

"I'm fine."

I don't believe that.

"Go away Demetri. Thanks for everything, but I don't need anybody here." he said sourly. I had to admit, it hurt a little, but I stepped back and shrugged. He started at me for a long moment, his bright green eyes piercing mine, and I couldn't look away. I noticed his lips, though swollen, were not chapped. He saw me staring and self-consciously licked his lips, making me feel a weird jolt inside of me. My head began spinning, and my face turned red. I looked past him into his house to avoid his gaze.

"Um... Sorry. I'm just not feeling well." He said, then stepped out onto the porch with me, closing the door behind him. When he came closer to me, I could smell something along the lines of Axe and the harsh scent of cleaning supplies, but it didn't bother me. his body heat was radiating onto me, but I stepped back involuntarily, playing it off as though I were just going to sit on the steps. he didn't seem to notice though, and sat beside me.

I'm sorry. This is all my fault.

I watched his eyes scan my words and he frowned slightly.
